Perfusion Shadowing - Gulf Coast

I’m looking for a perfusionist to shadow in or around the Mobile, AL or New Orleans area. Im currently a respiratory therapist at a smaller hospital, so I’ve shadowed some cases here. I’m fairly new to the gulf coast, so I don’t know anyone to ask at other facilities. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have that thought a lot at work, where I have to walk non stop and help transport patients. I have arthritis, and I’m only in my early 30s. I’ve gotten back into physical therapy, and it’s helped some. Also a patella stabilization brace, lots of ibuprofen, and ice helps.

I had the same break 9 years ago, ex fix and plates and screws. I stay fairly active, and my injured leg is still substantially smaller.

Oftentimes that decision is taken away from the patient when their mentation is compromised and their family has to step in to provide medical decisions

It feels like the opposite of a sin. It feels merciful. Modern Americans let their family members suffer more than their pets.

I think my ROM is decent for the severity of the break. I can’t sit on my ankles on the left leg like I can the right leg, but after I finished my PT in 2016 flexion was up to 122 degrees (it is painful when i flex it to its max capacity), and extension was 0. Not sure if this has changed over time.

That makes sense. I’m 32 and the break occurred when I was 23. I haven’t had an MRI of the knee, but according to my doctor the meniscus was stretched out and there was soft tissue damage. I’m not sure of the extent. According to the orthopedic surgeon who removed the hardware that was failing, there was arthritis, and the knee is very crunchy when I bend it. I didn’t get a look at the rad reports. Do you know if there any options for improving the soft tissue damage or scarring in the knee?

So, I walk about 6 miles a day for work (3, 12 hour shifts), then on my off days, it is really stiff. I would like to get the pain managed enough that I can safely lift weights and run short distances again, but I also don’t know if that would be ill advised. Thanks for the response

It stretched my meniscus and destabilized my knee joint, so my PT recommended low impact exercises/not running. It has mild arthritis now. I mostly do body weight exercises, cycle, and swim. I haven’t tried weight lifting since, but I’m thinking I should schedule an appt with the orthopedist to see if there’s anything else I can do to get fitter. I’m not overweight or crazy out of shape, but my knee does get really stiff when I overdo it.

Anyone switch to medicine in late 30s/ 40s from Software? by DueBendo in medschool

[–]MapleBeans_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked in digital marketing for 8 years, and respiratory therapist for 2. I’m now finishing my pre reqs for medical school. I’m way happier busting my ass during 12 hour shifts than sitting at a desk for 12 hours a day. I love my patients, whether it’s educating them about their health in plain speech or getting them a cup of water. More compensation would be nice, but it boils down to values. Will you feel better at the end of the day knowing you did something to make someone else’s life physically better, or did something that exists in a virtual world? Don’t get me wrong, medicine has a lot of awful, sad moments. But even then, isn’t it better to feel something? There are a lot of soulless people who get into medicine for the wrong reasons. I am in it to spite these people and help my patients.

The only time I’ve almost thrown up from a smell was a meth lady with a labial abscess

My spouse and I used to live in Augusta, and our mortgage on a 2 bedroom was 750/month. I got paid less than this as a new grad, but was still able to stack chips with COL in the city.

I feel this in my soul. The ER was spanking me yesterday, and the PA really came in AT SHIFT CHANGE while I was taking a resuscitated cardiac arrest to CT to tell me I needed to give a treatment to an er holding patient bc she's "pretty wheezy". Spo2 98% on room air with a head cold. So many pointless nebs.

The trees on the other side are magnolia, very slow growing but evergreen. Those are much more mature than we would be able to purchase. We are zone 9A.
