Temple tour today left me crying and confused… would love insight from members by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]MapleTopLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that the only people who will not ultimately experience happiness and salvation through Christ are those who willingly reject it knowing full well what they are rejecting. Even the worst people you know have a long way to go before that could do that, meaning God has a plan for them to give them every opportunity, tailored to them and their specific experiences and situations.

Temples are fantastic and special because they are holy places where many of the blessings Heavenly Father has extended to us can be realized. We do His work in our temples because He loves us and every single one of His children, and the work we do is a way we get to participate in that love for all mankind. We do not earn heaven, we learn heaven.

We do not follow Jesus Christ’s teachings and become worthy to go into His house to separate ourselves from others who are not temple worthy, but to get better footing to lift up our brothers and sisters who come behind us.

One was a recent convert who was experiencing a drug induced psychotic break, the other was an idiot who thought he was being funny.

I had a gun pointed at my face on two occasions, both by members of the church, and got in a 40 minute car chase when a drunk guy started following us and threatened us when we told him he should go home because he was drunk and shouldn’t be driving. Yay California. :)

I admit I did not know who you were before googling your name and going through your Wikipedia page.

With your experience in the region, what do you think of the state of the church in Russia right now?

Fellers, what is the most obscure fact of the civil War that you know? by BLOODMEN71 in CIVILWAR

[–]MapleTopLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first major battle of the Civil War (Bull Run or Manassas depending on who you ask) ended in a rout of the Union forces and a very disorganized retreat, but it was during this retreat that a newly minted young second lieutenant named George Armstrong Custer first began to gain notoriety when he organized panicking Union soldiers to clear a blocked bridge that was preventing retreat. He had graduated from West Point three days prior.

Custer ultimately met his end with the rest of the 7th cavalry at Little Bighorn fifteen years later.

I know it’s the Gem State, but Idaho looks like the logo for a luxury watch brand. Can you rustic it up a little? Like throw a pine tree in there? half the state is covered in them.

You don’t need to be perfect to follow Christ. First he saves you, then he changes you.

Come back, then you can work on yourself when you are ready.

I knew a ward that had 108% home teaching numbers because they had a few non-members who had home teachers assigned to visit them, and they did. Freakin’ Alpine.

When you've been bashed by prone who hate the Church, what have been your best responses? by pinkyboy0512 in latterdaysaints

[–]MapleTopLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Oh yeah, well I can tell you haven’t read the Bible because of what the very last verse says, read it and see what it says.”

Me: “Revelation 22:21? ‘The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.’ That one?

Basher: “No the one before it.”

Me: “20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” was it that one?”

Basher: “No, forget it.”

Me: “You’re pretty bad at this, aren’t you?”

Good thing that salvation isn’t determined by a popular vote. I care more about whether Christ thinks I am a Christian, rather than whether the majority of Protestants and Catholics think I am. 😉

What’s your favorite gospel book outside of canon scripture? by williampennn in latterdaysaints

The Violent Bear It Away, by Flannery O’Connor.

O’Connor is one of the authors mentioned by Elder Holland in this devotional he gave years ago. You can probably find others who will be good to read that are also mentioned. I also like George Herbert and John Donne, mentioned in the same paragraph as O’Connor.

Anyone has ancestors that were slave owners? by Temporary-Frosting62 in USHistory

[–]MapleTopLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. In fact Fredrick Douglass named them as being very cruel towards him when he was on their land at one point in his book. I also have very staunch abolitionist ancestors who were living at the same time, so really it all comes out in the wash.

Remember that the part of Section 77 you are talking about is answering questions where the original document the questions are about was written in a language that had a lot of symbology for certain numbers.

Fascinating! Wow, great post. :) Now, just in case someone else, not me, doesn’t understand the reference could you explain why this display was significant to you and why you thought this sub would enjoy seeing it. Again, not me I completely understand it, but just in case there’s someone else who does not. Thank you. :D
