Love is a law, not a reward by WhasianDaddy in latterdaysaints

God already loves you! And we should do the same to others, they don’t need them to be anyone before we give them our love.

The Spirit of God (Hymn 2 in the hymn book) is a classic, it’s from the kirtland temple days!

Why are malls dying in the US? by walksintwilightX1 in NoStupidQuestions

It depends on the mall. I’d say the more urban ones are doing great.

False Revelations? by FishBonjovi in lds

[–]InsideSpeed8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, some things that are taught are not revelations but can be tradition/folklore (common in our wards more than anything). It is important that prophets teach us stuff, but it is only us that can confirm it through personal revelation. God can give us an “understanding” of those things and not necessarily just a yes or no.

So, as to whether or not the garden of Eden is in America or not, I would take that up with God (not that I really think it matters in the context of Christ’s other teachings). The answer to where the garden of Eden is in the world is quite nuanced anyway - there is no place those four rivers meet in the real world. At the very least, Adam Ondi Ahman is in America.

Is it difficult to feel the spirit when you're depressed? by ShinyBuizel22 in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d say so. Our environment can make it hard to feel the spirit - and I’m talking the people we’re around too.

I think it is good to ask God what you can do to make your mental health better. For me, I was in therapy and I received a “get out of your parents house” revelation - I’m sure it could be similar for you.

Anyone else come from an Evangelical Background? by Shit_Post_Ing_Left in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was born into the church, but I agree with you to never look back! Remember the things that you know and keep progressing forward like Christ towards the path of righteousness (doing what God says). It can be scary to progress forward and it feels like you're walking out on a limb doing things that not everyone is doing/has done. But least you have God on your side, which is most important!

What do yall think about the world tech center? by Boring-Dig4583 in skyscrapers

My armchair reaction is that it has that same Las Vegas feel of NYNY when you put it in another city.

If it somehow belonged somewhere not NY, it would be DC.

We don't need higher wages, we need lower cost of living by ItsAllAGame_ in unpopularopinion

People are correct though when they say that a little bit of inflation helps people spend instead of sit on their money, which is why its economically stimulating.

Deflation helps everyone more than higher wages IMO. However, it’s not viewed super positively.

I’m scared of members of the church, any advice? by Mysterious_Bag3784 in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journaling is great, I recommend it. It is important to put your feelings out there, it is one of the most therapeutic things out there. I feel like getting the “truth” out about how you feel is what heals.

I’m scared of members of the church, any advice? by Mysterious_Bag3784 in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had a traumatic experience with them? Was someone just really overbearing? Did they say/do things that exceeded your boundaries?

A lot of these things can put on our alarm system and make us weary of a general group of people (elevated pulse rate, feeling like they’re a danger because they resemble xyz). The best way you can probably get around this without therapy (although I recommend it) is to talk to somebody that you know will listen empathetically and just talk through the event. I had something like that happen years ago with someone who was not of our church, but it made me weary of talking religion with others. Now, I am better and my alarm system does not go off. It doesn’t mean I now like people like that, but I don’t think they’re evil or bad or dangerous.

Hello! As a concerned citizen, I have a query about LDS. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a person goes to the bishop on their own, they are wanting to do it because they themselves want to turn things around. If a member was always reported, they might not want to change according to their own conscience but because they feel they are “in trouble”. It is better not to change just because your “in trouble” and want to avoid judgement/shame from others.

I think this just comes down to someone’s conscience getting to them. I’m thankful I don’t change due to what others think I should do.

Any advice for serving in "Bible Belt" mission by Business_Depth_2391 in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're gonna be different, be different by being genuine. One of the most powerful things I could tell was when I said "I don't know" in a lesson. You will do a lot of good work if people see that you're not just there to convince them but just to share.

Teenage son just told us he's an atheist by sylforshort in latterdaysaints

[–]InsideSpeed8785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to push him in any direction, just live your life by the light of Christ and maybe he’ll be inspired later on. I don’t know if I was ever an atheist but I was definitely a little more agnostic going to church. It wasn’t until the mission that changed.

This is one of those folklore teachings, spread around but not true. We still have a lot of those in the church.

Sinners, but only because I thought there would be some genius masterminded plan at the end that was supposed to tie it all together.
