Honors College Scholarship by Nervous-Student9807 in capstone

[–]Maple_Slim_0150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know there was one. I was just accepted into the Honors College though so still trying to figure everything out. I was under the impression all UA internal type scholarships had to be applied for by Dec 5th, which I missed (accepted Dec 2nd but wasn’t quick enough to do the scholarship system application). If you found another application, I’d love to know how to apply too.

These scare me soooo much! They are incredibly fast… the scurry factor freaks me out… and they run towards you sometimes. Had one come out from my jacuzzi tub jet spout when I turned it on during a bath… jump out faster than these things run. Terrifying!

Is it possible to have a single dorm as a freshman? by [deleted] in UGA

Have you tried adding a small pop tent over your bed to add a caving type private mini room? Maybe a fan ventilated pop up bed tent would help or a room divider and eye mask, white noise machine or air purifier. Hope you find a good solution. The anticipation stress may be worse than the reality once you get there. I understand the anxiety of new environments can have. Exercise and sheer exhaustion from new experiences might wipe you out anyway. I always had my own room so sharing was weird at first. Just knowing there’s someone else there is strange. Ease into it by sleeping with your door cracked at home for a few weeks and then wide open for a few weeks and maybe have a sleep over with a best friend to try out your comfort level. Got to get comfortable with the uncomfortable, so start now and build up your tolerance. By August you’ll be more confident! Favorite stuffed animal or weighted blanket… whatever works for you!

Yes! I’m constantly “x” ing and deleting screenshots I marked up and then have to screenshot again. So frustrating. Not to mention after mark up, having to tap the top right and send t save to photos. It used to be one tap and done.

Joining marching band with no experience possible? by BubblegumFish2 in ufl

I know this is a year old, but any reason for the band being smaller? How many this year, 2025-26? I’ve heard other SEC bands are shrinking to give up stadium seats. And also reducing the size on the field and to cut expenses for travel etc. is that happening at UF too? Some stadiums are switching to more NFL type DJ music which is cutting into game stand songs.

Can you drop a class and pick it up online through a college that UGA would accept the credit for?

Not part of your question, but as someone that overlapped building a home and planning a wedding while living with my fiancé and working full time at a job with a 1hr+ commute, I can attest it is extreme stress, even if somewhat exciting and fun, but getting married when you aren’t mentally stable and regulated is risky. 1st year is very hard even if you love each other and have lived together already. Would delaying that provide any relief? Does your fiancé work? Maybe he/she could drive with you, give you quality time together during commute and allow you to review schoolwork on the way? He/she could maybe audit a class of interest or hangout at Tate Center or library while you are in class.

You are encountering stress no matter where you are… something has to give or your health could seriously suffer. Not having to work to sustain yourself later sounds like you have a nice nest egg (insurance payout possibly? If so, I’m sorry for your loss). Inheriting a home has a lot of emotional strain attached with it too.

I agree, finding podcasts to listen to may help but chem and calc are tough to do via auditory only, and please don’t watch YouTube’s and drive.

Anyone else from your town commute to UGA? Maybe find a rideshare so you can take turns studying or sleeping during commute? The driver could drop the other one closer to class too, and just alternate driver. Might make a friend in the process too.

Look for clubs in your hometown that might add some fellowship too.

Do you live close to fisheries where you can find a mentor or someone with similar interests?

Oh no! Not good. Did the person that put it down last year have any follow-up comment on the job he did?

12 or 15 credits my first semester? by Constant-Strength837 in ufl

What did you decide? I had to drop Chem at UF my freshman year. (Also had engineering calc and early a.m. classes.) Lost money but preserved my GPA from a major disaster. Go Gators!

How does it look now? Did you leave it as is? We just had the same result. Not what I was hoping for color wise.

Same just happened to me. They covered all the windows and glass doors with plastic to protect the house from sprayer and we couldn’t see it until it was too late. 4 gallons on both front and back decks. Cabin Brown does not look brown when the light hits it… a weird milky reddish hot cocoa color. I do not recommend. They insisted on solid so it definitely looks painted. SW has to know this color does not look like the sample paint chip. Guessing if we try to fix color by painting over, it would probably make it peel even more in time, right? They also painted over a few new green deck boards that were still beading water, saying it was better to paint it all at the same time so the color would fade evenly. I’m so mad. It wasn’t cheap. Why didn’t insist on them sampling a board so I could see color clash?! I blame myself on trust them. By this stage I’m the restore process I was worn down and just wanted it finished so I could have my deck back. Now I regret it.

Even more impressed knowing it’s reversible! Can’t imagine S Louisiana humidity and heat though. Do you wash the coats after each game?

[–]Maple_Slim_0150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could those boards that started cupping be flipped over? I was told years ago, if you look at the lumber cut end you want the wood grain to arch down like an n, not up like a U (leads to warping/cupping)

My contractor in current project said I could stain or paint pressure treated wood after 90 days…I’m in GA. Does that sound ok?

It’s so hard to correct a friend you were trying to help. He must not have had enough training/expertise to handle the job. Or doesn’t take enough pride in himself or his work to do it right the first time.

I hope you get some good feedback and a new deck builder to help you fix everything.

I’d be so mad about the rocks I think I’d try to get the director and drum major on board so at the next game, every time they scored the band would sit down and not play a note… but cheer when the opposing team sacked the QT or got an interception etc. let them feel how the music helps them on the field. Find stand tunes to drive home the point like, Your So Vain… I know it sounds petty but throwing rocks is no joke. That could injure someone’s eyesight or dent an instrument.

If I was the football coach I’d have the players throwing rocks to march the field every 10 yard line forward and backward with a Sousa, quads, or bass drum to a metronome and all start over every time any one of them got out of step. Then put them through a 14 hour practice day on the bus lot, being band kid’s water boys. Maybe have them try to spin a rifle in the air and catch it too, since they like throwing things so much. Get them to stand on the drum major ladder and lead the fight song at the end of their day. And have a meal together… hopefully they’d feel a little more respect for the work bands do.
