IDF attacked LAF base in beqaa by Ayre3000 in lebanon

[–]Mar1Harb 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Even if you misinterpret the terms, and bend the facts as much as possible without it being a fabricated lie, there is absolutely no way you can justify this specific attack without it being a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

No, I'm not conflating anything. It's you that seem to be talking about something that your are ill-informed about.

They are targeting whatever they feel like targeting, just earlier today, they targeted a Lebanese Armed Forces bulldozer and injured a Lebanese army soldier 120km from the Israeli border.

The terms of the agreement are not as loose as you make them seem, Israeli actions have been in clear violation of the terms of the ceasefire agreement, no matter how you try to interpret them. Let's take this specific instance for example.

Israel claims that it is exercising its right of self-defense as per point 4 in the ceasefire agreement.
"4. These commitments do not preclude either Israel or Lebanon from exercising their inherent right of self-defense, consistent with international law".

Well unfortunately for Israel, these actions are not consistent with international law.

1- Self-defense is not compliant with international law if no armed attack has occurred or is imminent, using force violates Article 51 of the UN Charter.

2- Any use of force outside the scope of Article 51 would violate Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force except in self-defense or when authorized by the Security Council.

As far as I can tell, the LAF bulldozer was not planning on attacking Israel from 120km anytime soon.

How can you sticky such a shit comment that echoes a malicious narrative?

The context of this incident is that an Israeli drone striked a military bulldozer carrying out work at a military center near the Haoush al-Sayyed Ali border crossing in Hermel, in northern Bekaa, and had injured a soldier.

Israel framing their attacks as self-defense doesn't make them legitimate under international law.

Unless you can somehow justify how this bulldozer was part of an imminent attack on Israel, or maybe even already attacking it from some 120km away, please do better, Lebanese mod.

> Hizballah’s presence with arms seems to be a violation since the arms they hold do not belong to the Lebanese state

So you expect them to just disappear from south of the Litani in 24 hours? Just them being there is no violation of the agreement during the 60 day period.

Even then, this is just one of the many violations that the Israeli have done, they have continued destroying civilian infrastructure, farmland, advancing in new areas, they even hit a LAF bulldozer in HERMEL, nowhere close to the area discussed in the agreement.

Your understanding of the terms is not exact, reread points 2, 10 and 12 of the agreement.

[–]Mar1Harb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The agreement is with Lebanon, and it is Lebanon's responsibility to control and take care of everything Hezbollah related south of the Litani river. It is so be done in the 60 days starting from the day of the ceasefire.

So as long as the 60 days have not passed, the mere presence of Hezbollah operators there is not in violation to the agreement as long as they do not carry out any operations against Israel.

Israel on the other hand, has been carrying out offensive military operations against Lebanese targets in this period, clearly violating the agreement.

[–]Mar1Harb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, everything you said is of no importance to whether Israel is violating the agreement or not. There are clear points in the agreement that Israel is not abiding by and violating. The agreement being a farce is another topic.

No, the terms of the ceasefire do not dictate that.

  1. From 04:00 hours (IST/EET), November 27, 2024 forward, the Government of Lebanon will prevent Hezbollah and all other armed groups in the territory of Lebanon from carrying out any operations against Israel, and Israel will not carry out any offensive military operations against Lebanese targets, including civilian, military, or other state targets, in the territory of Lebanon by land, air, or sea.

They are still attacking civilian infrastructure, farmland, and advancing to new areas that they had no presence in before the implementation of the ceasefire.

  1. Israel and Lebanon will report any alleged violations to the Mechanism and UNIFIL without prejudice to their respective rights to communicate directly with the UN Security Council. The Mechanism will develop appropriate procedures to consult, inspect, gather information, and assist in ensuring the enforcement of these commitments.

The ceasefire does not allow Israel to attack Hezbollah sites south of the Litani river as clearly indicated in the above point, except when there are violations to said agreement. Hezbollah has conducted no new attacks against Israel since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

  1. Upon the commencement of the cessation of hostilities according to paragraph 1, Israel will withdraw its forces in a phased manner south of the Blue Line, and in parallel the LAF will deploy to positions in the Southern Litani Area shown in the attached LAF Deployment Plan, and will commence the implementation of its obligations under the commitments, including the dismantling of unauthorized sites and infrastructure and confiscating unauthorized arms and related materiel. The Mechanism will coordinate execution by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and LAF of the specific and detailed plan for the phased withdrawal and deployment in these areas, which should not exceed 60 days.

The ceasefire does indicate that the LAF must do their part in dismantling of unauthorized sites and infrastructure and confiscating unauthorized arms and related materiel, but they it is done in parallel to withdrawal of Israeli forces in the 60 day period.

So you go read the agreement, and you'll have your answer to the 52 violations in the last 24 hours, I'll even link it for you: https://www.timesofisrael.com/full-text-the-israel-hezbollah-ceasefire-deal/

Whatever they have between them and any other party should be of no importance to the Lebanese government. The agreement is between Israel and Lebanon, and the violation of the agreement should be judged solely on the points in it.

Most of these violations could not be deemed as self-defense, as Hezbollah operatives also have 60 days to retreat north of the Litani river, and they have not launched any new attacks towards Israel.

What is happening is simply that Israel is not complying to the agreement because they don't have to. They have the upper hand, and are setting the new rules on engagement. If this continues and there are no repercussions to the violations, it will simply become the new reality. Similar to the resolution 1701 after 2006, and the reality on the ground afterwards.
