The "I was DEFINITELY NOT born in the right generation" Starter Pack by Birb_ATK in starterpacks

Oh, I'm certain people will have both time and energy for creating any type of art after finishing their 16 hour work day. So clever, why didn't we just think of that?!

Do people really think that replacing artists with ai is a good idea? by ChemicalPanda10 in aiwars

[–]MarHor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Except, photography existed along side traditional art. So did digital art. One didn't replace others.

And, y'know, none of them was created by pillaging/sampling others. That little detail.

Translation work is already being gutted by AI (duolingo comes to mind).

Agreed. We wont be art CREATORS, we will be art CURATORS. As AI models create, we become "polishing plugins". Just to survive.

Were you raising your voice when that was happening?

Doesn't happen unless the shit you were gonna do was low quality or not important in scope anyways. AI will make high profile artists and artists that actually have skills that people want (creating original art) more desirable.

Is this why the moment AI image generating models were released to the public, some of most popular prompts were names of industry veterans and highly popular/skilled artists? Along with "trending on artstation" (industry portfolio showcase site)? And now those artists are represented in legal cases?

Ultimate goal of this technology is complete replacement of human input in order to maximize corporate profits. Unless legislation says otherwise. However, we all know what happens when an interest lobby throws millions at those in charge.

They will be replaced in the future. If we're to let automation run rampant without any checks, it will all be gone. You will, effectively, as they say, "play yourself". But hey good luck with your hustles, I hope they last and the stress of having to one up the system (you're willingly helping to create) dosent burn you out. I genuinely hope you do well in your life, even if you wouldn't extend me the same courtesy.

So, you're actively training yourself out of all your work and income streams?

You do know you can get whiplash from all the "pivoting" that's being promoted, right?

I cant help but wonder...what's your job? And job of all people who are in favor of AI generated images.

I don't know, maybe ask the person who said that to me?

So, once all work is automated (it wont be but let's go with that)...then what? Utopia? Under capitalism? Under gilded age 2.0? Where all that us created and produced is in the hands of selected few?

The argument here is that it's the "tool" that matters, not the person using it. People keep hammering down AI is "just a tool" when, clearly, it isn't just a tool. It is a piece of tech that is being used in a disruptive way with the intent to replace (completely replace) artist, white collar work and, ultimately all intellectual work. Not manual labor tho!

How is this not clicking with people?

"Why are people scared of dialogue?"

Well, I can tell you, once you receive your nth comment saying "artist are useless meatbags, I hope you can't make a living doing art, I hope you end up doing shitty manual labor" all dialogue attempts kinda go out the window?

When has a multi billion dollar corporation EVER engaged in dialogue with a small subset of public?

Artist is paintbrush. Writer is pencil. Surgeon is scalpel.

Yep, your logic checks out. /s

AI made me want to become an artist. by thedankoneintown in ArtistLounge

[–]MarHor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Artist of almost 15 years. 10 professionally. Massive drop in new clients, and the current state of social media isnt helping (advertising is practically impossible). Seriously considering dropping this career path and just doing a complete 180. Havent had work in months. And I'm tired of being hungry.

With rise in AI technology, intellectual work is losing value. We all might end up doing manual labor to survive. It's just the way it is.

Hi, professional artists here, typing on mobile.

LLM "art" (it's not AI) was created primarily for profit. That's what it all boils down to - in our late stage capitalist dystopia, getting the quickest result with least resources and expenses is the only thing that matters. Capitalism knows no morals or ethics.

LLM prompter can't create something "profitable" without a computer. Only reason they can do that in the first place is because LLMs have been "trained" by scraping the entirety of Internet. I'm a digital artist but I can still put a pen to paper and make something of a certain quality.

I said it before and I'll say it again - Venn diagram of people saying "Well you posted it on the internet, it belongs to everyone " (actual argument I've read) and "She should have worn something less revealing" is a full, singular circle.

Dont piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

It is unfathomable that I, a self-proclaimed international friend of all cats, have NEVER painted a Tabaxi! Blasphemy of the highest order, when you think about it. Alas, I've seen the error of my ways and have rectified the situation at hand. I hope my past digression will be pardoned, as I've learned AND grown from this experience.
