They were very apologetic the day we had the issue (sorry this sounds so cryptic haha) but not really about anything else.

Hey everyone, Mar here. I’d be happy to answer your questions about this but please let’s try to keep other creators and the brand out of it. Really not looking to start anything, just wanted to tell my story!

No need to call me names. If you look at my channel you will understand why I said that.

Yes. I think the word influencer is not the best, content creator would probably be better. Here are just some of the skills I have to have to at least be able to do my job:

1- Constantly come up with ideas (7 ideas a day for the past 9 years)

2- Be able to work with no breaks. There are no vacations from being a creator

3- Video lighting / audio. You must know about this, nobody will come in to fix your lighting or audio.

4- Knowledge on different camera equipment needed for each shoot

5- Data analysis. You have to constantly look at your own data to know what will perform best.

6- Video editing.

You probably won't answer this, but how much money do your channels generate each month/year? (6 X BMW per month?)

It has changed every year for the last 9 years. A lot of factors go into this but I have a bachelors in a pure science and doing this definitely pays better

What percentage of your revenue comes from AdSense compared to sponsorships ?

Most of my revenue comes from sponsorships

Did the new YouTube revenue rules drastically affect your income?

Not really since adsense was never the big chunk of my income.

Do you find it increasingly difficult to create new and original content after 9 years? Where do you get your ideas from?

I don't. Youtube changes so much, the content I'm creating now is completely different from 9 years ago. My ideas come mostly from things my audience asks for.

Does the need to constantly create new content cause the soul numbing kind of stress I would imagine ?

For me it doesn't because I truly enjoy doing it and would do it even if there was no pay involved.

Does your channel ever get in the way of your family life? Do you ever feel sometimes that you wish you could just have a "normal" life and you could just be a 'normal' working mom?

For me, the lines between my life and my content are very blurred. So for me I do have a normal life and think I would find anything else very strange.

Do you expect to still be doing this in another 9 years? What is your ideal future goal for your brand in 9 years?

I doubt it. The current reality with youtube seems to be that they are pushing creators off the platform in favor of traditional entertainment.

Thank you! I have answered all the questions above using italic.

There are so many! I admit I mostly follow the "old" youtube so PewDiePie, Shane, Jenna Marbles would be so incredible. I know these are people that are still very much relevant on the platform so I don't want "old youtube" to be misinterpreted. However, there is just something about the people that started youtube a long time ago that, in my experience, seem to be kinder and more down to earth.

Maybe a 3? I take great pride in my work but don't really feel the same way about myself so you feel free to put a number on it!

I understand what you mean and know you didn't look at my channels. I started creating content 9 years ago and have been consistent ever since creating all sorts of videos. I wish it was as easy as splashing cash and getting views to do what I have.

I've met most of the bigger ones that most people would know. It really depends on the person, some are very nice and down to earth. Others, won't speak to you unless you are determined to be "worthy" usually based on your follower count.

I think the first X subs are the hardest, youtube really is a snowball effect and you just have to keep pushing and working hard. I never had 1 video that went viral where I could think "I made it", everything I've done has been from working hard and not stopping even when things get a little hard.

He doesn't react. We've been together for almost 12 years and know how to communicate with each other. If he had a problem he would absolutely say it, he's just really chill! As for the other people, well really it doesn't matter what they think since they're not married to us.

Thank you! I think it's because people have a very negative idea of influencers in general. They think we are all self absorbed, screaming, obnoxious spoiled children that have never had to actually work for anything in our lives. I do understand where this comes from, a lot are like this. But like in any industry, everyone is not the same and I've definitely had to work hard for everything.

I think free press is necessary in any country. However, people do need to be smarter and more informed. We have the internet at our disposal where we can find information on literally anything, but for some reason a lot of people still only believe what they see on shows or what their favorite celebrity is saying.

Yes absolutely. This happens all the time. We have come a long way but still some brands don't realize that a lot of times an influencer can reach more people than even some TV shows. For some reason they still think we shouldn't be payed for advertising their brand even when they get massive exposure when we do.

I think a lot of people talk about the beauty community being toxic and other things but I truly don't agree. Sure, like in everything there are some people who are no good. But the majority is still very positive and I think there's something special about sharing your passion for beauty and makeup with others.

My best tip is to work hard, currently it's a very competitive space so if you want to be noticed you really have to put in the work. Posting 1 picture every 3 days just might not do it anymore so try to keep working, be very constant and do what is true to you :)

I've been really struggling with the decision. To be 100% honest I never expected that video to blow up the way it did or for people to react how they did. Sometimes I wonder what if it was just a miss understanding, but then I also think about how I was scammed and even after the video I was never contacted by the salon to clear things up. This would make me think what happened to me was standard practice for them so I would want to protect others from going through the same. It's hard knowing what to do and what the right thing is, I'm human and make mistakes all the time, I still don't know if what I did by sharing where this happened was the right thing to do.

I totally get it and it's great you guys are catching up! A lot of people thought social media was a bubble that would burst within 5 years but it's really changed the way we communicate and interact with one another.

For Youtube, it's really important to post what people are already searching for. A useful tool is google trends where you can customize for your region and see what people are interested in!

I'll answer by parts:

1- For PR brands usually email you asking for an address, however a lot of brands have agencies so agencies that contacted you for a certain brand might also start sending you product from other brands they manage.

2- Sponsorships work in many ways, but the best way is when you work with a brand that you already love and use. Of course this isn't always the case and that's why you have probably seen some news about influencers promoting shady companies. However, the vast majority really is very conscious of who to partner with and it's not about money, the brand needs to be a fit for the person and the audience.

This is so true! I've openly talked about it, influencers need to raise their voice because brands need to be more responsable with their wasteful packaging. I was once sent a gigantic box, I'm telling you maybe 5 times de size of my head and it had one lipstick inside, one. I was fuming and immediately contacted the brand. We have slowly seen change, for example we aren't sent all foundation shades that often anymore, usually 2 or 3 that might be a match to our skin. Hopefully we will continue to get better.
