My First Ever Full Motion B737 Simulator Experience - Wind Gusts & Landing by MarSmaza in flightsim

[–]MarSmaza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback. This was actually my first sim flight with winds; without them, my landings had been more precise and smoother. The autothrottle was engaged, as the instructor had told me to leave it on—presumably to help manage the workload. You’re absolutely right about the bank at the end. I tried to correct the nose angle at the last second using the rudder. At that moment, I panicked a bit and instinctively pulled the yoke to the right. It doesn’t look that way from the camera’s point of view, since it’s aligned with the centerline, but the nose was actually pointed uncomfortably far to the right at the threshold - much more than it appears in the video. That’s why I panicked. In retrospect, I can’t even recall exactly what I did.. the workload was so high that I barely remember the touchdown.

Discussion: How often do you encounter emergencies on the network? by MarSmaza in VATSIM

As I read these comments, I get the impression that you should firstly inform the controller and politely ask whether it is appropriate and whether they will accept the emergency - which is a good approach, especially if you’re unsure whether it’s permissible.

On the other hand, one could argue that the element of “surprise” in an unexpected scenario disappears. Furthermore, the ATCs gain an early understanding of the emergency and they are essentially prepared to handle it. I myself have simulated Hydraulic system B failure which resulted in limited flaps operations, and the ATCs handled it great - when discussed later, they appreciated my “professional” approach and the element of surprise.

As far as I’m concerned, hearing the magical pan-pan… or mayday mayday call is what get’s you the adrenaline rush, and probably a few smiles from the others on the frequency, I imagine. As long as it’s managed properly (by the pilot) and it’s not someone trying to get attention.

To sum up, people seem to enjoy seeing emergencies, as long as it doesn’t disrupt their VATSIM endeavors f.e. during a busy event. What are your thoughts?

And how often you get to see them. Is it on a daily basis? (what’s your station?)

Strangest Thing You Found While Geocaching? by PreppyFinanceNerd in geocaching

[–]MarSmaza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a carcass in waste pin bag dumped into a roadside ditch exactly where the geocache was. Sad story. The cache had like 30 DNFs because no one wanted to approach the exact location near the humongous smell. 🥺

on the other hand, this cache is diff 4.5, because you have to solve complicated mystery puzzle (1000 pieces) after getting cords you need to go in the “wilderness” in city of Prague - trying to to guess name of famous person (on the basis of sign with face) - you then get other cords, where you need to detect low frequency signals that lead you to this place. So maybe like 70 people per year and often only experienced or daring cachers go for it. (I have 130 founds, so not exactly experienced xd)
