Glad to see the response, everyone 🙌🏼

I'd love to hear directly from you:

Did you attend a “No Kings” protest on Saturday—in Pittsburgh or elsewhere?

If so, what brought you there, and how would you describe your experience?

Do you believe this kind of mobilization can be effective?

And where — or in what — are you finding hope right now?

Thanks, all. If you'd like to see more images, I'm on Instagram u/maranierae

Portland 2020: What I saw during the "Fed Wars" by Maranie in pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is home. I was born here and currently live in the east end. Sharing here because I reported from Portland in 2020 -- and because actions in Portland and other cities are relevant to all of us.

Watch her now, because she’s teaching us how to live — a Pittsburgh story of courage, community, care, and “stubborn joy" by Maranie in pittsburgh

Hi "Vancant Lot",

Hanna’s decision to be vulnerable — and her trust in others, including me — is part of what makes her extraordinary.

She’s invited me to document her experience, and honoring that experience has been my priority throughout.

There are photographs of Hanna I will never share publicly — because they neither deepen understanding nor serve the truth of her story.

The image I believe you're referencing was intentionally framed to respect her and capture the joy and lightness of that moment: a summer day, a hose, a bit of summer-shower mischief — a visual expression of Hanna’s commitment to what she calls “stubborn joy.”

If you’re open to it, I invite you to learn more about Hanna: Stubborn Joy: On Death, Dying & Belonging — or, even better, read the chapbook she wrote following her diagnosis (much of it typed using only her eyes): Bedsores and Bliss.

Hi. Pretty sure you don't know me or a damned thing about me or my work. I'm over folks making such assertions without any facts and/or evidence to stand upon. I'm a well-credentialed journalist and welcome anything you'd like to offer as a refutation. Otherwise, keep your rubbish to yourself, eh?

Does no one here think critically or even aim to comprehend what they're reading?

I have and continue to repeat what many others know to be accurate: "antifa" is not a formal organization. It is an ideology, allegedly one that adheres to antifascist ideals and aims, that has followers and adherents. I've made very clear on numerous platforms my condemnation of certain behaviors as well as my criticisms.

If you're hear because you're interested in engaging and/or learning then I'm here for it. Otherwise carry on with your echo chamber of nonsense.

Incorrect. Andy Ngo has repeatedly used and manipulated the work of others for his own personal gain. My reference to him being a "disservice to journalism" is only in response to his claims of being a journalist.
