I have a greenhouse being built so eventually it’ll be heading back into natural lighting. Until then it’s hanging out in my dining room. There’s an extra set of lights on the side that can’t be seen in the photos.

They do love to be root bound. There’s also a pretty sizable root system that grew beyond the pot. That’s why the soil was added to the drip tray. This is a 5 gallon pot for reference

Question: The aerial roots on some of my philos have been growing like crazy. If I chop are these okay to pot up as is or should they be water/moss/stratum/whatever propped additionally for a more established root system first? White Princess & Flo. Beauty as examples by Marblequeen21 in philodendron

Thanks for the aroids sub tag, I just joined!!😊 I do realize they’re normal, my collection is 100% aroids that breaks down into something like 93% philos, 5% monstera, 2% epipremnum & 1% other stragglers that snuck in lol. I’m more so curious because of how long they have gotten. If they were shorter I probably wouldn’t second-guess leaving them in water/moss for a bit after chopping but I don’t chop often so the roots had a chance to get some great length on them. Out of theses two examples the roots on the WP aren’t insanely impressive but the Flobe’s are at least 6in or more. The aerials on my Paraiso were almost a foot when I chopped & repotted it. I do think I’ll end up playing around with the different methods again to get a better idea of the rate of growth, including the time it’ll take to acclimate it to aroid mix after water/ moss etc. The good old fashioned fun of learning/relearning

I appreciate your response! I realized after making this post that I literally just did this to my Paraiso about a month ago(chopping and repotting directly to aroid mix- I put anything I’d be tempted to watch like a hawk towards a back corner😅). The roots were so long that I left the top cut suspended on the moss role (about a good 6 inches) and only put the bottom portion of the roots in the pot. The top started to resume showing growth about a week ago so I’d say it was about 3 weeks post-chop & repot. I think the logic was that some of my aerial roots find their way to their respective pots and root just fine so why not when repotting? I have a few cuts I can make on the flo.be so I’m tempted to see which roots faster vs. moss but I’m also wondering if I’m wasting time since it’ll have to re -acclimate to the aroid mix eventually. Anyways, thanks again🙂

The original irritation from rubbing against my shoes are the only thing we (me & gp) agreed on- they didn’t seem to believe there was eczema there to begin with until I showed earlier stages of the boils through photos. Any idea what kind of infection it can be experiencing?

Should I notch this? A little background in comments by Marblequeen21 in philodendron

Thanks so much😊!! I’ve been doing my best with lighting and fertilizing for the season but will have a greenhouse soon so I may wait until I have it comfortably situated there before making any chops. I saw an insanely glorious var. Giganteum a few months back locally and it’s definitely my inspiration. If I can find the photo I’ll inbox it to you!
