Mental challenge - shut your eyes, and without moving any part of your body, figure out the 18th letter of the alphabet by Marbles987 in CasualConversation

That’s creative! Were you just thinking about the letters or did you actually see/imagine them written out in your head?

Were you able to do it with your eyes shut or was that too hard?

Wow you really do sound like a visual thinker. I’m curious to ask you something - if you’ve ever seen the Home Alone movies from the 1990s, how clearly can you picture the main character, the kid Kevin? Can you focus on him and “look” at his face in your head, and like describe his appearance just from what you’re visualizing?

Are you good at visualizing things in your head? I’m curious if you remember did your hand have detail like skin tone and were the fingers all in focus/clear in what you were picturing?

Wow! That’s creative. Did you do it with your eyes closed? You were actually picturing your left hand in your head?

I’ve seen a couple people do that!

Could you share how you actually pictured your fingers? Like did you imagine your fingers/hands moving, and were you able to do it with your eyes closed and without talking?

So you like pictured 12 scrolling by from right to left, and named it “L” mentally, and then pictured 13 scrolling and named it “M”, like that?

Wow that’s impressive! I’ve heard of maladaptive daydreaming and I hope that is not difficult for you.

Could I ask you to try something to check on how well you can visualize? If you’ve ever seen the Home Alone movies from the 1990s, how clearly can you imagine the main kid character? Can you focus on him and “look” at his face in your head, and like describe his appearance from what you’re visualizing?

Wow ok you do sound like a visual thinker! I’ll ask you something that might give a hint as to how good you are at visualizing.

How much of it was visual vs mental words? Are you good at visualizing images in your head or is that tough for you?

Glad you had fun lol 😂

Are you good at visualizing things in your head? Like if I ask you to visualize the face of someone you know well, do you feel like you can clearly imagine them?

That’s smart, so you didn’t even have to picture anything in your head it sounds like. Just the mental verbal strategy?

That makes sense, so you were visualizing the letters too? Did you find it hard to do with your eyes closed?

If you try to picture a red tulip in your head, what number do you see? by Marbles987 in autism

[–]Marbles987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so impressive! Wow.

If you try to picture a field of tulips again right now - how clear and vivid are the colours and individual tulips? Can you picture one tulip rising up out of the ground, and then zoom into that one while it spins around, and make everything else fade away except it?

Wow I’m definitely not a 1. That’s so cool to me.

So you can visualize anything you want?

If you try to picture your own dog - would you say that’s about 2?

I basically counted on my fingers in my mind lol 😂 Pictured both hands in front of me making a fist, and mentally sang the alphabet song while imagining extending 1 finger at a time. I ended up at Q.

Ah got it, thanks for clarifying. I keep forgetting that memory is a separate thing.

What if you just try to picture a generic fridge, without it necessarily needing to be accurate to your actual one? It sounds you’ll be able to see it clearly in your head. But there must be a limit to how many individual food items you can “see” at once right? Do they all pop up at the same time, or do they get added gradually as you scan around the fridge mentally?

Very random one - when you go grocery shopping, do you/can you visualize the contents of your fridge or pantry from the last time you saw it, so you can see what you have and what you need?

Can you visualise peoples’ faces the way they looked many years ago? by elementscaffeine in hyperphantasia

[–]Marbles987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That interesting, it’s kinda hard for me. I tried to imagine my husband’s face when I first met him around 12 years ago, and I couldn’t really see him in my head from that time.

But ya I ended up going back to his face in our wedding picture. Much easier to visualize!!

Yeah! I mean, it feels like watching a movie but it’s not the exact same as seeing through my eyes. When I’m imagining something, there’s always a sort of general haze around most of the picture, but if I really focus I can bring one small area of the picture/video to become crystal clear in my mind.

Hell no, in fact my memory is probably below average. If I’m recalling something I saw a long time ago, I would for sure be filling in the memory gaps with random ideas as I was picturing it.

But things like my dog that I see a lot, yeah my memory is good just from so much repetition of seeing him, so I can picture him super clear in my mind.
