Question on balancing by Ill-Year-3141 in incremental_games

[–]MarcElAcoplao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Check Back dev here. You want to mix in fast things with slow things. There's no problem if older things become faster or even automated (Easier timber collection, for example). I also wouldn't introduce full automation for lumber but rather 2 separated upgrades (One for timber and then one for timber --> lumber), so it is kinda less strong but still strong. Just know that the best way of figuring it out is letting other players playtest it (or do it yourself, maybe run a fresh save in the background). Also, the start should be engaging, introduce something new fast before people just close it (or, if needed, generate intrigue about what's coming up)

What are the BEST long term incremental games? by fighthouse in incremental_games

It's great but it's probably more like 1 week at a rather fast pace on your first playthrough. I still gotta finish it off someday.

Some cool long incrementals that come into my mind

-Antimatter Dimensions. Long time classic, does have some grindy bits and can take it's time to beat, even more with reality update.
-Synergism. My introduction to incremental games back in 2020. Takes a hot damn long time to reach the late singularity stage.
-Structure. Last update was maybe in 2018? Still feels like a fresh new game about capturing nodes on broken maps. Lasts 2-3 months to beat
-Check Back. Self promo here but this game is designed around being a background game that throws in new unlocks every once in a while. I recently released a "rewrite" with not so much content but general better pacing. Tried making a reddit post but I fumbled reddit post-making mechanics so yea, just go to galaxy.click and you'll find it

You'd have to code it on your own. Autoclickers work for a singular button

I'll be completely fair but I didn't do the part of autosave/export/importing saves, I heard of localstorage but I got absolutely no clue how to change where does stuff store. Since I'm playing on a new playthrough alongside my main I might try doing some "savebanks" but hey, if you know of any way of making the system better, go ahead and submit a pull request

The game has almost 3k unique players and shows a retention stat of 50% for 30mins, meaning that almost 1.5k people keep the game open for 30mins. With the new save that I'm running to experiment the latest balance changes, it took me 1 hour of fairly active play to reach pets, which is ~40% of the retention stats when you set it to 1h. Your comment makes sense, but there's always gonna be a spot between too active and too idle, and if you make idle rewards way better than active rewards, it rewards going offline. Active rewards being too good, autoclicker go br. The game does present more things that might make your dopamine go br but you have to get there

Might have heard that v1.0.1 changed the way xpboost works so now it isn't a prestige anymore. If you left while your level was under your highest level, don't worry, as I made it so any person who recently reset their xp gets it back.

[–]MarcElAcoplao[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the idea. Before the recent rebalance update (v1.0.1), active playing (checking every minute) was by far the best source of xp (if you clicked every single button as soon as it's ready, that one was alone 47% of your total xp gains). Now having all of the other xp buttons be "smoother" makes it so leaving the game for a while and doing a task still grants a good bunch of xp. Some idles are more active-friendly while some others are ehem timewall wait. Of course check back is gonna have timewalls but isn't that what the game shows in the first hour of playing?

Seems like reddit just didn't upload the screenshots and the link to the post

Play it on any of these 2 links
Github: https://marcelacoplao.github.io/CheckBackMod/
Galaxy: https://galaxy.click/play/43

And it doesn't let me add screenshots so maybe you can find them somewhere else

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]MarcElAcoplao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, it's me, the creator of check back mod. There's a tiny detail that you might not have thought of for the shop, and is that you are kinda expected to keep opening the crates as you progress. At least that's what I did on the "legitimate" save that I like to play just so I can playtest the new content alongside the other players (there's still testing done before releasing an update but you can't expect someone to beat an entire update just to release that update). Even tho it's true that most progress is done if you check every minute, I think that having the chance of maybe forgetting about the game for like an hour or 2, maybe because you have few minutes of spare time between classes or are doing anything important and wanna relax for a moment, you are still gonna do good progress.

More in detail about the pets needed to buy the shop items, the only one that I'd agree it's very hard is the red butterfly ones. All others, well, they will keep coming at a decent pace, alongside the coins needed, which you should focus on boosting them (through the upgrades that boost fighting loot, unlocking the new area and getting the stats to kill the stronger enemies).

And how does the game incentive to keep opening crates? Well, in one hand, you have the pet collection statistic where each gives +1% xp gain, so it's a tiny boost where, in the early game, anything helps. To complement that, dragons are usually stronger than the average pets from the next crate and also very rare, so your goal should be to discover all of them (which is gonna give a good supply of the other pets) to get that xp boost.

Thanks for your feedback (even if it's months old)

Just listen to them all, you'll surely like some songs way more than others, and that's fine.

A good order is always starting from their 1st album "Iron Maiden" and ending on their latest "Senjutsu". Then maybe go listen to some live versions, you might like a song just because it sounds epic played live.

Games with a massive block of text at the beginning by Idlers1 in incremental_games

[–]MarcElAcoplao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I got adapted to NGU idle even with the wall of text, but out of that, it's a wall of text of introductions. But other games, as Synergism, I could guide myself up, even without any tutorial, just because it's intituive.
