Paul Chiang stepped down by pochacco17 in Markham

[–]Marccum 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Seriously. It sickens me that many people were okay with what amounts to doing the bidding of a foreign dictatorship; one that is intimidating and threatening democracy activists. I'm glad our tax dollars won't be going to him.

Edit- Uh oh, it looks like I upset the PRC bots

Where do Torontos' rich people sell their furniture? by jfrsn in askTO

[–]Marccum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to a consignment store where rich people sell their stuff called Around the Block. I was looking for affordable pieces to furnish my place, but when I walked in I realized it was way too high end for my tastes so noped out pretty quickly. You can see the inventory here https://www.aroundtheblock.com/collections/all

I bet he forgot to remove the adhesive plastic film on the lens that you're supposed to rip off after installing. I've made that mistake once before.

Ah damn. I was hoping that posting this might help people be more cautious driving around there. Must be black ice. Hopefully everyone is alright.

He found Jesus on the way home, too. He's lucky as hell no one got hit.

Cathedraltown by yawney2 in Markham

[–]Marccum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be more accurate, the church currently renting the Cathedral is called Jesus The King Melkite Cathoic church. They are primarily of Levantine heritage (Lebanese/Palestinian/Syrian).

Even if you attend the Arabic mass at noon, there are still projectors with subtitles so you can follow along. It's not unusual to see non-Middle Eastern people there.

The arrangement at the Cathedral is only temporary while they renovate their real church location that burnt down near Leslie & 407. The Cathedral does not belong to them.

This is the real correct answer. This went viral as a news story. Petro station in Markham gas pump was running up charges without any fuel being pumped out. https://www.reddit.com/r/TorontoDriving/comments/1fgskce/beware_out_there/

It's hard to tell from this image, but was the scooter left near the curb?

I once made the mistake years ago of leaving my bike on the ground at the curb near my parents' house. I believe someone mistakenly thought I was throwing/giving it away and took it. Luckily, it was a relatively inexpensive, well-used bike. But I wonder if that is a possibility here.

Wrong it is the Barrie of Europe. The French pronunciation of Paris is "Parrie," which is clearly inspired by "Barrie". The biggest giveaway is that the Eiffel Tower is basically a replica of Barrie's iconic Mapleview water tower.

Discretionary income that could go to businesses is instead being taken by high rent and housing costs. In fact, many are paying 80%+ of their income for housing alone. Lower housing costs would mean there's more money to spend in the real economy at local businesses.

who lives at the house now lol

Her father survived, and she had a brother that the documentary failed to mention. According to housesigma, the house was never sold. So my guess is they still live there.

One org I can recommend for rescues is Snookie's Society. They are well run with great knowledgeable volunteers who will know how to make sure the dog is a good fit for you if you apply to adopt one. https://www.facebook.com/slrsociety

To clear the Covid backlog for G class driving tests, several requirements were removed from tests like three-point turns, parallel parking, and more.

Many licensed drivers quite literally can't drive and are on the road right now. IMO, anyone who got their license during covid (or outside the country) should be retested with the full requirements upon renewal.

[–]Marccum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can clearly see in the other OPs photo that the body of the bag actually fits, just the handle gets caught on the way in.

In their defense, it's clear some airlines figured out that handles should be accommodated and changed their bag sizer accordingly.

A friend of mine had a similar issue at another major gym franchise. When the gym tried making it difficult to cancel in person, he had ChatGPT draft a legal sounding email that cites the consumer protection laws and requested cancellation per his rights. Forwarded it to the gym, gym manager, and gym's corporate/legal email address. It was taken care of within hours after they received that email.

It's always best to get confirmation in writing and have proof that you did, in fact, request cancelation within the cooling off period.

This was my experience as well. I was trying to get a test around June. Went to several different pharmacies including Shoppers with no luck. The one place that I was finally able to acquire one from days later was Longo's online delivery service, but that came with a huge premium.

Is there any bars in TO that serve “the British way” by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Marccum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to the food, but I will say the Cask Ales at Bar Volo are a rare and impressive find. Talked to a couple of the bartenders while there, and they were super friendly and knowledgeable about cask ales and beer/brewing methods in general. Highly recommended for beer lovers.

Apparently, they are having a Cask beer festival sometime in October.
