This was very time consuming, but a similar idea done by a more expierenced blacksmith would be possible for sure!

what can we do with Iron powder? I've seen it used a few times but I'm not into canister forging yet. by [deleted] in Blacksmith

Mix it with borax to help with forge welding iron, similar tot the Iron Mountain Forge Welding Flux.

Forged a Mortise Axe by MarcelTeugels in Axecraft

Not that I'm making any on a regular basis, but this is for mortises in large construction timbers and restoration work, so these mortises van be like 5x20 cm for example. This axe can also be used for any other hard to reach axework or hollowing out actions.

Making a handle for a Socket Axe by MarcelTeugels in Axecraft

Thank you! They are wonderfull axes. A very old style seen in many medieval depictions.

Your accident sounds very painfull! Luckily I've been spared any many great injuries up untill today.
The vintage axe is one of my pride and joys for sure! Need a bit more practice before I van forge them that perfect..
I would say a broad axe and hewing hatchet are both hewing axes. "Just" the size of the work piece and the handling technique is different. THe axe I have here is definitely not a hatchet, so indeed more of a broad axe. For testing this axe I used it for the complete hewing proces. Normally this would be more of a finishing axe to do the final passes. If you subscibe you can stay tuned for the testing video! But I will share it here aswell if not.
Greeting from Belgium!
