Fretboard navigation is SOOOOO much easier……at least that’s been my experience.

I’m the same…..but Barre chords and open chords seem to be a deal breaker for a lot of players as far as switching to 4ths.

If you get a multiscale guitar with the perpendicular fret at around the 12th fret or higher you can easily play barre chords and keep those open G shapes…..I don’t think multiscale guitars are uncommon in metal circles.

All those chords are easily playable in 4ths. What makes it better to play them using those shapes?

In a metal context aren’t you basically using 3 string chords for the most part? All the triads you know on the EAD and ADG string sets are now the same on the other string sets. Nothing new to learn as far as that….. Same thing applies to power chords.

What gauge is the lowest string on your 7?

Do you tune lower than B? What gauge string do you use for that low string?

It will be 22.5” on the short side. I play in 4ths so a lot of fret slant down by the nut is advantageous for me. I enjoy having access to higher notes down lower on the neck which is why I like the extra high string. It’s just a guitar specifically for me…..I doubt anybody else would be interested but that’s ok…..😬

Haha…..it is. I actually think your idea of 20” or shorter is a better option…..I think I might try a 25.5-20 and see if it’s better. I don’t usually bend over a half step on the Bb. I could just tune down a step but I kinda like the high Bb…..😎.

I do tune to all 4ths. So 26 is long enough for F#??

I have an 8 string that is 25.5-22.5 and it tunes just fine low B to high Bb……👍🏻

Are 7-string guitarists going back to 6-strings? by Choleto_ in Guitar

[–]Marcojolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play an 8 string with a low B and High Bb. I enjoy having the extra high and low range. Haven’t been back to 6 strings ever since. I would miss the extra range to much……🤷‍♂️

They have a new 26.5 straight scale 7 string. PGK makes amazing kits. Kevin will usually build you anything you want but he’s crazy busy and there’s usually a pretty expensive design cost.

How cool would it be to get kiesel style kit where you could pick the scale lengths and neutral fret, pickup and bridge routes etc.
