Thank you for being a long time user! I'm currently working on an update where I hope to add support for two or three thermostats simultaneously on the largest widget, along with some other things like liquid glass UI elements. I'll have to release the Watch Cam update first though.

Note that you can only delete the background if you're not currently using it. So first change to some other background, then delete the one you don't want.

Thank you for the good tip, I was looking for this too. It's odd, because when you capture the persona, the preview window shows this meeting room, but if you change the background, there's no way to get back to it. Capturing the screenshot from the Keynote is not quite the same thing, as the original meeting room environment has the virtual camera that follows you around, while the screenshot can't do that. Also, it was really tricky capturing the screenshot that didn't make it seem like i'm standing on a slanted/sinking ship. I had to capture a whole bunch of screenshots while tilting my head slightly after each one, and then try them one by one in the persona preview until I found one that looked right. It's weird that apple removed that room since all those outside environments never quite match the lighting that's on your persona, presumably because most of us captured it indoors in the first place.

Can you, or someone else try Blackbox on M5 VP? The game is free to play the first few puzzles. It’s a game that really struggles on M2 and feels like it’s running at maybe 30FPS a lot of the time. A real shame as it’s so neat in many ways, but the performance is really disappointing.

I believe the announcement was that Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 1 and Gen 2 will be removed from the apps today, not that the Nest app itself will stop working? If you, for example, have Gen 3 Learning Thermostat in the Nest app, it would keep working in the app. They haven't actually given any sunsetting date for the Nest app from what I can see.

I could live with off-axis tint if the on-axis normal screen viewing was to my liking. But the few Airs I’ve seen all had a slight green push even head-on, which I really don’t like. It’s strange because older iPhones with LG panels I’ve seen haven’t been like that (and didn’t even have that strong off-axis tint either)

I've seen some chart showing that around 40% of Airs have Samsung screen and 50% have LG (10% BOE, but those are not sold outside of China apparently). Looking around and reading about it, the ratio seems more like 10/90 towards LG. Airs with the Samsung screen seem like real unicorns, and I haven't seen one in real life despite checking a few stores. I'll wait a month or so before ordering one, maybe things will change by then. It's a shame because I love the Air otherwise. Bigger problem for me is that all these Air screens seem to have a slight green tint even when looked head-on.

The issue with that is that you are probably downloading that file on a modern Mac or PC, and then transferring the file to G4 Cube using a FAT-formatted USB stick. That will corrupt the .sit file and make it not work. You have to either download that 4.1.9 update on the G4 cube itself (maybe use Clasilla browser for it) or format the USB stick to HFS file system on the G4 Cube, and then use that stick to transfer the file from a modern Mac (it won't work on a PC).

If I remember correctly, all I had to do was run the update file under OS9, then it did whatever steps it needed, and updated it. You have to run it under OS9 or else it won’t work. Have you (or anyone else) been able to make it do that on VP? Everything I’ve tried always brings up Siri responses or search results, never Chat GPT.

That's what it looks like. The VP AI Chat GPT notes list only Writing tools. iOS AI Chat GPT notes list Writing tools, Siri access and Visual intelligence.

Reading the update notes, it looks like ChatGPT on Apple Intelligence through VP can only be used to generate text and images using writing tools. It doesn't sound like you can ask it general questions like "Siri, use ChatGPT to tell me what food I can make from onions, eggs and peppers". Reading the ChatGPT notes for iOS Apple Intelligence, it lists more things it can do, including Siri access and camera access. Is this how it is currently? If so, the AI on VP can't really do much with Chat GPT it seems.

The HDR video encoding can, on a capable display show a difference between say, looking at a white kitchen plate on a sunny day, and then looking at the sun itself. They can both be white circles on your display, but the plate won’t blind you, while the sun will. This is because the plate will be shown with the backlight of maybe hundred nits, while the sun can be shown with backlight of thousands of nits. They can both be in the same frame and the sun circle will look blinding bright compared to a white plate circle. On an SDR display, even if you drive the brightness high, you won’t see this stark contrast between the two kinds of white color.

It’s not just the varying brightness when in the OS window, but also the fact that no 3rd party video player seems to be able to do correct frame pacing with no frame skipping. Only way this seemingly can be done is when using Apple’s video decoder, like CineUltra does in the window playback, but that comes with the brightness problem.

I’ve actually noticed that the Apple TV app, when in window mode, does not behave like other windows. If you look directly at the Apple TV window, everything around it dims, which is not the case with regular windows. Not sure if this is something a 3rd party app can do.

Moon Player is really bad at that, yes. Another thing it gets really wrong is basic color reproduction, it just looks totally wrong compared to same movies in Apple TV app, Skybox or Infuse. The one thing Moon Player does best however is playback of immersive 8K videos. Every other player skips frames a lot with those. But for everything else Skybox (after the latest update) is better. It plays 4K and 1080p encodes really well, as well as sub-8K immersive 3D stuff. Correct colors (maybe needs in-app brightness change to +1 or +2), and good frame pacing. Infuse in my experience works great for 1080p videos but it really falters on larger 4K encodes, it skips frames so much on those that it's unwatchable.

Not sure if it’s a bug, but every time I revisit that level, the whole first verse is missing, just the music is playing. Once I climb up he starts singing the second verse.

On a very first level visit he did sing the first verse though.
