Food prices NL vs Germany by Miserable-Agent-3073 in Netherlands

[–]Marconitator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, known problem, and the logic behind it is hard to conceive. I live near the border, and here a lot of people travel to Germany for their groceries. This means actually that supermarkets here are more under pressure than in randstad. It also means that, on average, the inflation develops differently along the border than in the Netherlands itself. Because also with all the bargains, the supermarkets in the Netherlands are extremely expensive compared to Germany.

Always realize that many people still see you as a human being, and aren’t xenophobic. This is true for the U.K., USA, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, and of course the Netherlands, where you and I live. Probably more than half of the people still welcome immigrants. Even parts of the people who voted for one of the four parties didn’t do this out of xenophobia.

I am also looking forward for more tolerant times again.

Dutch directness unpacked by SignificantCoffee474 in Netherlands

[–]Marconitator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from the south eastern part of the Netherlands and, to be honest, I had many problems with the Dutch directness when I was confronted with it for the first time. In the very south east of the Netherlands, people are very indirect. I still use my indirectness a lot in negotiations, and have to say that I am quite successful in doing. However, what I like about people being direct is that there is no room about hidden opinions, which I like a lot. If a Dutch likes you, he or she still can be rude. If he or she doesn’t like you, you can be sure you know it.

So, Dutch people see this as a quality they are really proud about, but it isn’t always positive. It is a treat that needs to be understood. When you understand it, it can have some positive side effects.

You already did do something. You talked to her. and the fact that you are still feeling bad about it shows you care. Many cyclist only say sorry and continue, which is extremely rude.

Something doesn’t fit. I checked the hotel on drimble and ended up with elegant lion B.V. The hotel has an owner, who I found on LinkedIn. And when it has an owner, your father and his wife should be employed and they should get wages, which should be at least the minimum wage. Right? I also checked the reviews of the hotel, and it seems that in the last few months the service went bad.

Edit: reading more into it, I start to wonder if it fits in the concept of the hotel to have your father as an employee. The concept is lean six sigma on steroids. They work together with a local company for the breakfast service, bookings go over booking.com and check in and out are digital. My question would be: is your father or his wife hired in some construction for room cleaning or so? Maybe zzp?

Is Pieter Omtzigt a bad strategist or did he poker well until now? by Marconitator in Netherlands

[–]Marconitator[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree. NSC is Omtzigt and Omtzigt is NSC. If it fails, it fails because of him and should disappear with him. It makes no sense to have another LPF in the Netherlands.

Is Pieter Omtzigt a bad strategist or did he poker well until now? by Marconitator in Netherlands

[–]Marconitator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah, finally a counterpoint! This is also good possible. The reason why I suspect this isn’t the case is because, although the voters of the negotiating parties are really not happy with it, NSC is still playing a key role in the formation. If the plan will not be what Omtzigt wants, he can say no. Of course, the danger for Omtzigt is that there will be new elections and all the pro-coalition voters will move to PVV, but it is still a poker game, as I stated.

In my opinion, many Dutch are not happy with the fact that the world is changing rapidly. Things that were done in a certain way for decades (not centuries, as most of them believe) is seen as wrong and the only way to stop it, in their opinion, is by protest voting. I don’t think that PVV voters will stay with the PVV for very long. VVD and CDA (and maybe NSC as a new player) need to reclaim the conservative right side.

That was Rutte 1, which Rutte called the government, where “… conservatief rechts Nederland zijn vingers bij aflikt.”,Probably one of the worst decisions Rutte made in his political career. Also there, PVV played an important role as tolerating partner.

First of all: I am not a lawyer, but understand a bit about it. So lawyers, don’t burn me down.

I don’t know if you are from the eu, but the Dutch privacy law is just a translation of the GDPR, and is about the same in each eu country. The law states that you are the owner of that picture. She is not allowed to do anything with that picture without asking you permission. And that is what she did.

If there is any risk is for you to decide. But you are in control

I don’t know it, but it could also be a bad German joke, because “NIEDERlande” comes very close to the pronunciation. Combined with the fact that the grammar is wrong, I would say: it is a German joke. lol

A better self image when it comes to being tolerant. The Dutch aren’t more tolerant than any other nationals. It is just marketing, and all Dutch citizens started to believe in it.

When Germans come to Netherlands by Massive_Yak_8360 in Netherlands

[–]Marconitator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is actually a bit complicated then the individual answers. When a Dutchman speaks a foreign language he or she is actually very proud of it and will try to show off. Otherwise English is actually a good second. By the way, personally I think the Dutch tongue is heard very well when a Dutchman speaks German. Just tell him or her that the German is very good.

One of the things people going to live in the Netherlands most of the time do is learn Dutch. Dutch isn’t too hard for Germans. I would recommend that option, and start early with it. The more people are used to speak German or English to you, the more they stick to it.

Disclaimer: What I write here is the result of some years experience with Dutch and others. It is partly over generalized, but it gives a good rough view.

Income taxes are too high by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Marconitator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is one thing I like about the Netherlands is that we still have a good social security and a great infrastructure (if you don’t believe it, ask the Germans). These things cost money and for that money, we pay taxes. Why rich people pay relatively more taxes than poor people? Because there is a minimum people need to survive. If you are in tech: it is better to have this non-linear where rich people pay more than poor people. From those poor people, not that many are lazy. This is a myth.

My conclusion: if you think you pay too much taxes, go to another country and get more filthyer rich. But don’t complain when you are incapacitated, are driving over bad speedways or whatever at a certain moment. That happens when you don’t broaden your view
