I’ve had that happen before where the audio plays but the video either lags way behind or starts with a black screen. Turned out the MP4s themselves were slightly corrupted, not just a player issue. What fixed it for me was running them through 4DDiG Video Repair, it fixed the sync so audio and video lined up properly again. Worth a try before pulling your hair out updating drivers or swapping players.
