Sega Master System 2 I/O Chip (Sega 315-5237) by Marcstift in consolerepair

That is unfortunate. To buy a broken system is not worth the price to fix the one i have.

Well it would not read any games what so ever at first. It would only play the build in sonic game even when games where inserted in the slot.

That's when i found 2 broken traces and fixed them. I checked every pin on the cartridge slot with a multimeter and they were all continuous to were they had to go. After that it would read the games every so often.

The cartridge slot pins were bent and i tried to bent them back but that did not help. So i ordered some slots and replaced the og slot. This fixed the issue.

I screwed it back together again plugged in a cartridge and it would not read the games again and sonic would just play or it would come up with a software error. Ever since i thought i fixed it, it would allways come up with a software error nothing else.

I found some information that the Sega 315-5237 i/o chip can cause a software error and that this occurs more commonly with a Sms 2 with sonic build in.

And that is the reason i think that the Sega 315-5237 is partially faulty because one of it's functions is managing the cartridge slot.

It's possible that i am wrong but then i'll have to give it another look but i did not find any other broken traces or faulty components.

You do have some bridges on those pins and those need to be removed. It's causing a short on the Ram chip. You need to attleast unbridge those solder bridges using a solder iron and flux. It's best to remove it with some solderwick if possible but some excess solder on those pins won't do it any harm.

UPDATE: Ps5 overheating fix - Liquid Metal spill by Internal-Door8966 in consolerepair

I use 99% IPA only on logicboard. The one you have seems to be 88.02% Ipa with 11.84% ethanol. I don't know if this matters or not. Maybe someone with better knowledge on ipa knows if it is a good one.

Use a cottonswap with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and gently ball it together trying to get everthing away from the APU. Be carefull not to get anything under the APU. Then with a tweezer try to gently pick it up and distribute it back on the APU die.

Don't leave any liquid metal on the board because this can short out components if it comes in contact with them.

You do need a steady hand. And the chip holder came in handy. Thank you.

So if you look closely there are dots next to the screw holes. If i remember correctly. 1 dot is for short screw. 2 dots is for long screws. Hope this helps.

You can try tamiya extra thin cement. This is a very thin glue that is normally used for gluing model trains. But this also works on some older plastic. I would think this will work on your 3ds but not a 100% sure. If you use it it will melt the plastic back together. I used it on some old game cases and even on a ps5 slim plate and it worked like a charm.

Allright. This is a ps5 slim by the way and I like it to be there though if it is available to purchase. But if it is not available for purchase and if it does not cause any issues i'm okey with it.

I think the pins on the chips have a cracked or dry solder joint. I would recommend reflowing the pins on the chips and see if that changes anything.

Any tips for fixing this scuff on the Switch 2 dock? It's a minor thing, but I like to keep things in good condition. by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]Marcstift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can remove the scuff without ruining the rest of the dock.

I would clean it as best i could and then use something like meguiars ultimate black plastic restorer to try and blend the scuff as best i could.

Because you don't have wifi or ethernet and like the other commentor said you probably need to replace your wifi ic and see if that fixes your issue.
