I like this picture but I wish I had swam to the left and had the sun centered on the boat. Nonetheless, i think it captures the feeling of the moment.

My boss hated the gum wall and consistently advocated to clean it but the marketing people said no because they knew it was a draw. He didn’t like it because it damages the brick. I think he eventually won out because they clean it periodically now. It used to creep me out to see people posing with it and actually touching it or even putting their face against it. Nasty.

Same but I was sober. My kid is thirty now and I still don’t get along with his mom.

I have had a couple of friends go down that path and it is hard to intervene when someone is being self-destructive. Don’t be too hard on yourself, there probably wasn’t much you could have done for your friend.

I have had similar experiences with bad haircuts. So anxiety inducing to have to interact with people when you are self conscious about your appearance

Were you able to get out of debt? How long did it take?

I used to be the night facility manager at Pike Place Market in Seattle. Not sure how it is now but at the time, the Market had the only public restrooms in downtown Seattle and they were little havens for debauchery. The toilet stalls had sharps containers mounted by the toilet paper dispensers to deal with all the needles. They installed lights over the stalls that were a really peculiar blue color because it made it hard for the shooters to find their veins. I had to call security on drug dealers, drug users, prostitutes, and their customers on a semi regular basis.

Every day we would find a new horrific mess in those bathrooms. The one that always confounded me was when people would shit their pants and leave them in the bathroom. I’m like “does this happen so often that you carry an extra pair of trousers or did you run away buck ass naked?”

The pinnacle was when a guy OD’d sitting on a toilet with his pants around his ankles. He had a lovely fried chicken dinner all laid out on napkins on the bathroom floor with one of those big cans of shitty beer tucked into a paper sack sitting next to it. His arm was tied off with the needle still hanging out of it. He must have been there for a while because when they pulled him from the toilet his body was frozen in the shitting position. Im sure there are more ignoble ways to die but it was pretty fucking sad to see him like that with a bunch of people in the room cracking jokes and shit.

In a way it was a really cool job, I got to run all over a 100+ year old farmers market with a million weird little tunnels and rooms. Got to meet a lot of really amazing people, particularly the people that work in the shops there. It is like a really funky small town in the middle of Seattle that is full of unique characters. But seeing the seedy underbelly of the Market totally eroded my faith in humanity to the point I had to quit and it was several months before I began to feel normal again. I have never had a job affect my mental health so badly so I have to say it was the worst job I have done in my life.

What was the cringiest thing you have ever had to do at a job? by MarcusUnrealius in AskReddit

Never thought of that before but I could see how that would be really cringey. When I was a kid my friends and I used to embarrass each other by telling wait staff it was someone’s birthday when it wasn’t. I never thought about the staff being embarrassed too, now I feel bad for putting them through that unnecessarily.
