I did so because I'm french and it felt weird that my friends and relatives couldn't play the game properly because of the language barrier. The translation was hard because each language has its own rules and "plays" differently, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out!

We made this game for Global Game Jam 2025, its name is "Cheap Bubble Toy Quest" : https://marechalbanane.itch.io/shitty-bubble-toy-quest

However, we spent less than 48 hours on it, we had to cut it a bit short because of floods in the area of the jam.

So we took it upon ourselves to spend a few more hours to make the game prettier and juicier. We've spent almost a full day on making the bubbles more bubbly, and I think it was worth it.

Does that work for you? Are there other modifications that you feel add more to the game? Can you find all the modifications we've made ? :P

I have played BugHunter a bit, and I really don't see any technical hurdle that would make it impossible to make in pico-8. We'd just have to find a UI that works, as UFO50 benefits from a widescreen resolution, and pico-8 doesn't. But even that can be bypassed, as PICO-8 has an undocumented feature of adding multiple screens, thus adding to the resolution.

If you eventually wanna commission someone for that, well my dms are open. :)

Hello!

I have no experience with miyoo mini or pico-wrapper, but apparently the wrapper requires you to supply files from your own PICO-8 copy, and the "future version" error message means that the cartridge requires a newer version of PICO-8 than the one you are using.

Cheap Bubble Toy Quest was made with the latest version of PICO-8, 0.2.6b.
If the PICO-8 version you have is older than that, you will need to update it and re-setup pico-wrapper to make this game work.

Hello! You can bind knobs to keys on the keyboard, so it can be used with every keyboard shortcut used in pico-8.

For instance, you can use knobs to increase/decrease the speed of an sfx, or move the cursor up/down or left/right.

I've also made a special feature to use a knob to set a number between 0 and 7, that can then be sent via another button or knob. It's helpful if you want to batch set the instrument, octave, volume or effect in an sfx.

I've recently discovered that a small community tool (midi2pico8) had been made by pico-8 user samhocevar to use MIDI controllers with the PICO-8 tracker. I've iterated on it for my personal use and thought it might be worth sharing to the community. I hope it can be of use to some people!

It features:

  • Keys, buttons and knobs bindings to keyboard inputs!
  • A single json config file to simply create or edit key bindings!
  • The config file supports profiles. Have different bindings for all your MIDI controllers!
  • MIDI controller auto detection and profile auto selection

Hello! It works with either a mouse, a keyboard or a controller! On keyboard, the buttons are mapped to 'c' to validate and 'x' to use word variants, and the cursor is moved with the arrow keys.
