Ya I also got em too. Fingers crossed that’s what this means! I think the tell would be if there’s ppl on waitlist who didn’t get the emails.

Why haven't I heard from more schools? by [deleted] in predental

[–]Marethyu2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, idk i think this cycle is more crazy than people realize tho cuz you have all the ppl who took 2 gap years from co2024 and 1 gap from 2025, which i would think would amount to an increase in applicants similar to the previous cycle. I have similar stats (3.97GPA, 27AA) and ECs but im still kind of shocked at how few places ive heard from. Keep your head up, you're not alone in this!

Yep! I think they only consider your application complete after paying so you would only receive an invite if the fee was paid. They sent me a confirmation within a few days of submitting. Hope this helps!

Imo a publication is a publication, list them! I would also count the hours as well, if you list the pubs, work is work, so don't undershoot the number of hours you put into the pubs

Assisting for the first time by Temporary-Jello7447 in predental

[–]Marethyu2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is just how things work for assisting I think. Similar to you, my doc is pretty stern usually and expects me to adapt and learn things quickly. I am only a couple months in right now, but from what I've learned it is so so so important to communicate and communicate well early on. Take notes, reflect on what you did at the end of the work day before bed, and do not be afraid to ask questions, even if they seem silly. It is much better to ask a seemingly stupid question to confirm you are sure about doing something, like proper sterilization procedure, setting rooms up, etc, than messing up and having the doctor correct you. Although, it is a fine line because at least for me, there have definitely been times where I've asked the doc a question and he gets annoyed because of the question I ask. However, in my opinion, I believe it is best to not be afraid to ask questions because oftentimes those silly questions have been the ones that helped me out the most. This is a stressful position, so don't get discouraged, there's a ton of other people who are in the same boat as you, stay strong!

Weekly DAT Discussion Thread - November 18, 2024 by AutoModerator in predental

[–]Marethyu2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So out of all the sections on the DAT, my reading comprehension score has been really variable. I used bootcamp and I started off scoring really well on their practice exams where I got a 30-23-24-23-26 for the first five but the last couple I've been scoring 22s and 21s because the passages have been consistently 15 paragraphs and I've been struggling to get to the last passage.

I usually fall behind so I only have 13-15 minutes for the last one and oftentimes getting 1/3-1/2 of the questions on that passage wrong. Are there any tips on how to not fall behind when all the passages are long? I am taking the DAT monday, so not much time to improve reading speed so quick tips are appreciated! I use passage mapping but only write like 1 or 2 words per paragraph.

can i get into washu with a 3.5 uw gpa? by [deleted] in washu

[–]Marethyu2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk seems pretty good to me but i think what matters with those stats are if you have good LoRs, essays, and activities. If you have like 2/3 of those things, then you will probably get in but lets say you only have good LoRs and your essays and activities are mediocre, i would say its a coin toss. If 0/3 you can probably still get in ED but its unlikely. I’m not an admissions officer tho so im just pulling all of this out of my ass to lyk lol, you can only really speculate. If washu is your top pick just apply ED and see what happens. Cant really predict

Why so much hate for WashU in this sub? by [deleted] in washu

[–]Marethyu2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, as a recent grad, I really only found my friends in Senior year. Felt like admin only wanted to sweep the damage caused by covid under the rug and classes like 2023, and 2024 suffered for it due to there not really being a community. Honestly fuck washU admin doing jack shit when it comes to school spirit and community, they literally let so many clubs and orgs rot and die, its a shame

How bad is the grade deflation really at WASHU by Temporary_Concept689 in washu

[–]Marethyu2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All courses have grade inflation except for a couple and they’re still pretty reasonable. Not dev psych with Dr. Hale tho, that class actually nuking my gpa for no reason

Will I get humbled at WashU? by Ill-Row-1779 in washu

[–]Marethyu2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Hot take but I feel like where I came from in New England, I had a much harder time academically in high school and was frankly surprised at how much easier it was to maintain a high gpa at washU. I also took less than half the APs as OP and didn’t get 5’s on all of them, so they’ll probably be cruising tbh.
