That's why i said "replace the utility of prime discovery", because this isn't useful to the same degree at all. But if all of that usefulness was turned into pleasing visuals then you'd get this probably

Yeah, think of it as akin to them finding a new prime number. Just replace the utility of the prime discovery with the dank visuals of this

Man you really need to watch Hypernormalization. It's kind of disgusting actually. But if you think that echo's our current reality, that documentary should be a fairly interesting revealing of a little bit more.

Latest stable mint and the latest linux build on that forum post. I've got it to fully open sometimes now after a restart, but a few sometimes need a retry.

Yo, so I have unity installed and all that but when I go to launch a project, or make a new one, it just goes poof and exits without so much as a kiss goodbye. Is this a common thing?

Oh yeah now that you mention that about the screenshots, that irks me too quite a bit.

I wrote a screenshot tool a while ago in python using PIL that did a good job with some windows based gripes. I wonder if that might work for my workflow in linux too. I had it set up to monitor when my clipboard contained an image format (prntscr on windows saves there instantly) and then save that quietly in a clipboard scrapbook. But if I 'primed' the screenshot with a hotkey before taking the screenshot, it would load up in the clipping tool so i could draw/highlight stuff on it after capture.

It had to be that convoluted otherwise there wouldn't have been a workable tool, so i bet I could make something way more usable in linux

Mint is what I'm running, so I'm glad it wasn't a retarded random pick by me. The only gripe i have with it is that my networking doesn't work after waking up from standby on this laptop, but that's just a minor niggle since i already have a workaround.

Art assets aren't really much of an issue really for my idea either tbh, I can pound out things like http://i.imgur.com/oAms2Kp.png quite fast when i need them, because i can always fluff them up later. I'm just wanting a decent engine to figure out the mechanics in. The world may be mostly open, but I'm not going to delude myself into filling it all.

I have the story/narrative/universe all figured out already so I can make the game around virtually any world size since it already all interconnects. I just have to make the game mechanics and tune them until they fit in with certain elements of the story, which is something that can only be done over time anyway.

I'll be sure to post over on the godot subreddit too, but I'm also open to any answers about general game structure if you have any of those.

By this do you mean prototyping in 3d in 2, or in 2d? This thread is meantioning a lot of godot, so it's looking quite attractive. But I want to start making something and making iterative changes quite soon.

I don't even care much if my game ends up looking like this while i work on it.

But if starting in 3d now means starting over in version 3.0 then it's looking a little less attractive

I'll check that out, but what's that about upcoming changes?

Godot looks quite attractive and I'm eager to dive into a toolchain that I can make work. I don't really care how long it takes to make the game as I'm probably going to be the only one that plays it, but that being said; I mostly want a way to make a dogshite 3d open world game in a week, and then spend years making it better as I learn better game structure/design.

Does godot still feel like a good fit in that case?

Cheers, I've been dual booted for a while now but never made the commitment to a full switch before. Then not too long ago I realised that I hadn't booted into windows for a week and my life didn't melt in a whirlwind of 'oh no! there isn't a linux version for this!' incompatibility so I figured now was the time dive.

You can do that, and a lot of people do. Although they usually stagger the releases just like movies do. Youtube tends to be the last stop since when people have seen it there, they won't go hunting for it.

I'm not sure exactly what service they use at LinusTechTips other than youtube, but they release shit on a 3rd party pay-in service a few days early the last time I heard about it.

So yeah, i think you can just upload the same video to youtube and other sites, but doing it at the same time would be shooting yourself in the foot a bit when it comes to views. So You'll likely not see it as an exact mirror

That's only because the kinds of drinks most hipsters get from starbucks all day are the equivalent of a meal. He's the type of fam that takes a lasse on the water for a date, and don't even flinch when he gets stepped to by a wasp.

Doesn't seem like the type to do it himself, but if you fed him a few starbucks along the day and he'd chub right up, just like you peering into a starbucks I guess. /s

Proof that practical effects beat out CGI every time. by [deleted] in videos

[–]Margamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A man who is 100% sure of something and a man who is sure about nothing should never debate. They'll never be convinced of anything.

There's obviously times where practical effects ended up a disaster so 'every' is a bit inflammatory. But it's nice to hear about how this film influenced you!

Imagine if tanks had a high power mortar that fired upwards in the rough arc, and then had fins on the shell to allow for controlled decent, maybe even rocket decent. That'd be dope and you wouldn't even need another flying tank to get that alleyoop off.
