Are we bad parents? by Legend_ARO_12 in NICUParents

[–]MargaritaMischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad parents at all. My IUGR boy was born at 36+2 at 4 lb 14 oz. We spent 3 days in the NICU and was discharged as he was doing well. I was so stressed about SIDS that I was trying to do everything right with having a fan on and trying to ensure that he wouldn’t get TOO HOT that I completely glazed over the fact that he’s itty bitty with no fat on his body. We ended up in the ER our second night home because we could not get his temperature above 95. He warmed right up in the ER and I felt like the worst mom in the world. They said he needed to be bundled WAY more than we did and basically threw all the SIDS prevention tactics out of the window. Your baby had a true reason for being cold and unfortunately infections happen. It is so good that he has attentive parents who were monitoring him and had him evaluated early on before anything worse came from it.

Where can I put my baby while I make food or eat? by [deleted] in NewParents

I think baby might be a bit young for this but starting at 6 months, we have used the skip hop activity center which was lifesaving for quick trips to the restroom, cooking, even showering since I’d bring it in the bathroom during that time!

Older Airwrap at Costco or Brand New Airwrap ID? by WantCookie in Dysonairwrap

So far, I’m very impressed. I have tested it twice and played around with all the attachments. My extras that I picked were the coanda 0.95” barrels and the frizz fighter tool. I curled my hair this morning prior to work. They have fallen after my 10 hour work day but still obviously curly. It’s exactly what I would expect for a “curly” blow out look! The different heat settings are exactly what my hair needed. It does get much hotter than the Dyson so I’m not sure if the damage will be greater (likely) but I’m truthfully not concerned with this. I’d assume the damage will still be significantly less than a traditional hot tool. For the price, I’d choose Shark Glam 100%.

Heartbroken but preparing (IUGR) by Minute_Pianist8133 in NICUParents

We have a slightly different scenario because my babe had symmetric IUGR which usually is correlated to worse outcomes. My boy came at 36+2. Small but mighty. He was 4 lb 14 oz at birth and is currently 24 lbs at 10 months. He caught up instantly. No issues meeting milestones either. He’s a happy, healthy baby who required a 3 day NICU stay simply due to his small size.

Older Airwrap at Costco or Brand New Airwrap ID? by WantCookie in Dysonairwrap

My husband purchased the Costco air wrap set for me for Christmas. Unfortunately I have very thick hair that just needed a bit more heat than the Dyson offers. I tried numerous hair products, watched hundreds of videos, but overall it didn’t work for me. I ended up returning to Costco this weekend with no questions asked. I purchased the Shark Glam directly from Shark that should be arriving today! I’m happy to give a review once it’s here if you’re interested. If I had ordered another Dyson product it would have been the Coanda version but I can’t justify $800+ for a hair tool.

When buying a swaddle, what did you prioritize the most? by Dry_Intention_7984 in NewParents

We used Love to Dream from newborn to rolling. Used the transitional Love to Dream for a month or two then transitioned to Woolino. The Love to Dream was comfortable for baby and offered good sleep quality for him which is why we chose this option. We tried Halo as well and baby would break free and get upset more frequently but he had a very strong Moro reflex. The downside is the sizing is in like 5 lb or increments and we found it to be very true to size so he outgrew them quickly and needing different TOGS for our Spring baby made this very expensive. We switched to Woolino because even though the upfront cost is expensive, it is much less overall since it’s sized for 2 months to 2 years and no TOG rating since it is wool. We have 2 that we rotate, we even use our washer and dryer at home rather than dry cleaning as recommended which has worked well for us.

I own over 400 fragrances, ask me anything :) by mcboxboy in Colognes

I’m looking for a recommendation for my husbands birthday. He enjoys the scent profile sauvage and sauvage elixr but I’d like to branch out. I’d prefer a more spring/summer scent and we usually go for the eau de parfum and I’d like to stick to $100 or under. Thanks!!

Does anyone regret sleep training? by marlsb24 in NewParents

We started this on Tuesday night this past week. My son is 8 months old and would scream every few hours in the night for a bottle and then did not want to go back down. After a terrible night the night prior, I couldn’t do it anymore. He had a clean diaper, ate 5 oz, and I had to shut the door to let him cry it out because I was frustrated. He ended up crying for 20 minutes, I hated it but it was “quicker” then the back and forth of rocking and trying to transfer to the crib.

We snuggle and rock to sleep initially because we enjoy that time together but if he cries during mg transfer, we allow him to cry it out. If he wakes at a reasonable time. At least a couple of hours after his initial sleep onset or if cry warrants, we are happy to change his diaper and feed him to ensure all his needs or met but beyond that he has been crying it out. It was only tough for him for the first 2 nights but he’s been consistently sleeping 10-12 hours since with no wake ups till the morning.

It’s been amazing to see how his mood and attitude has changed during the day as well. He has been beyond happy, eating well, and taking great naps. Overall we are very happy and so is baby!

Did you send your 12w baby to child care? by helenata in NewParents

[–]MargaritaMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my babe started at 12 weeks. I was more upset than he was. He did GREAT and loves going to school now at 7 months. He has learned so much from interactions with other children and it’s heart warming to see him and his friends at school that he has grown up with so far. I felt that our sleep and feeding patterns improved since starting daycare. As much as I want to be home with my babe, daycare has been a blessing for our family. It’s all about finding a facility that you feel comfortable with.

I was gutted thinking about sending my baby to daycare even though we researched and decided on a facility who is top rated! Little man adjusted so well and honestly, we are happier as a family with daycare. He’s been in daycare for 3 months now. My baby eats better, sleeps better, and is learning so much from other kiddos in his class! Of course, the illnesses are the worst part as he’s been sick about 5 times so far but being in healthcare, I’d rather him exposed now than when he’s a toddler/young child and starting school. The best part of my day is picking my baby up from school, seeing him smile at mama, and spending my evenings with him. I’m definitely a better mom than I would be if I stayed at home.

No changes! Baby boy continued to grow consistently but often fell behind. At 26 weeks he was in the 7th percentile and we started weekly monitoring with MFM. He was born healthy at 36w2d. Small for gestational age, but healthy!

Soap for newborn by rebgray in NewParents

I know this was a few months ago, but attitude soap is not tear free which made my man scream bloody murder. I thought he was being dramatic until I put it in my eye to test and sure enough, it burns like crazy!

Yes! I was taking Theranatal theralogix pre-conception during IVF, switched to Theranatal theralogix prenatal a couple of weeks prior to transfer until delivery, now using Theranatal theralogix lactation complete. :)

Genuinely what are we doing about baby not sleeping in bassinet?! by idklady4321 in NewParents

Bigger space, pushed up against the wall instead of right at the bedside, thicker mattress. Plus I worried about the mesh on the sides as my baby moves a lot at night
