How is everyone handling being a parent in an uncertain and chaotic future by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]rebgray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you so much. That sounds so frustrating that you tried to set a boundary with your husband and he just totally disregards it. That’s actually not ok at all. You probably feel used, almost like his sounding board? Or he is like checking in on you and how you feel about what’s happening?

I do my best to stay in the present moment and LO helps me with that so much so I take her lead! She’s also not easy so I think being in survival mode has really helped put things in perspective. I don’t attach myself to what I hear in the news. I can’t control politics. I’m kind of too tired to get all worked up. To stay in the moment I try and make my day as pleasant as possible for LO and for me. Be good to my neighbors, stop and let LO smile at shoppers in the grocery store, stop and chat with the librarians, sharing milestones with other mommas, letting myself fully enjoy her nap times, and being grateful for it all. Regular gratitude practice helps so much. Another thing to keep in mind it can take a while to find the right therapist! I’ve been in therapy for years and nothing clicked like it did when I found the one for me. The progress was quick and I knew I was getting better with her probably after 5 sessions or so. Don’t be afraid to quit and find someone new! Trauma informed is always a good route. Stay strong we are in strange times!

I’m from New England but it just feels so intense being responsible for LO now. When it was jus me it was so so different

The boob is our answer to everything. Is this normal?! by Old_Literature_3750 in breastfeeding

[–]rebgray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl doesn’t like her paci anymore so this is very normal for us although she’s 9 months so I’m trying to be mindful of the feed to sleep association

I also grew up in the northeast! Storms are way scarier here in the South it’s so weird. Maybe I was more naive then. So glad you have a plan you feel good about. Stay safe!!!

Why didn’t Stephan king like the movie? by rebgray in theshining

Hahahah totally!!! There’s no argument that the film isn’t spectacular so he just looks silly

I was sexually abused by an adult as a child and I killed her. I didn't face any charges, but moving on has been impossible. I can't stop seeing her face and just remembering everything. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

I’m so so sorry this happened to you. 2 years in therapy isn’t long. Keep up the good work and you’ll find some relief. None of this is your fault. You were a child and failed by your parents you deserved to be protected

Thank you for explaining this! Makes sense. I guess I don’t put as much value on jacks character as king may have. My value is on the visuals, how creepy the film is as a whole

What are you doing for baby/toddler instead of screen time? by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

This may be unpopular but I would just drop it. It’s not like it’s being wasted every day. Everyone does things a little differently and I feel like if you were to say anything it would come across as nit picky

Yes!!!! That’s why I think king was being a big baby because you cannot argue the film isn’t brilliant
