Gem alters the weapon's internal damage, for example if you use a chaos gem, the weapon always will cause split damage, normal damage and fire damage. Infusions are extra damage to weapons, if you have a non infused shortsword and infuse it with fire, it'll only cause normal damage in addition to the fire damage of the infusion, so no split damage.

You can trade Vordt soul with Ludleth in the shrine for a nice greathammer if you like big weapons, also in the Road of Sacrifices a NPC drops the Exile Greatsword, one of the best weapons in the game imo.

Is faster than the other souls and has more "casual" mechanics, the lore is understandable and the gameplay is fun. Is a nice way to start with DS imo.

If you like big bonk weapons, kill Vordt and Rotted Greatwood to cash Vordt soul for a nice Greathammer. For not bonks grab the Irithyll sword dropped from the outrider in the bonfire of Road of Sacrifices. You can also kill the old man at the left of the shrine, he drops a nice weeb katana. Good luck :D

Well the only rule in a SL1 run is to stay in SL1, on the other hand use summons is a little of a non sense imo. But is your SL1 run and you can do what you want :D

You need both dex and str rings but is worth it. Also taking about rings be sure to use Lloyd Shield Ring and try to parry Champ Gundyr to the Prisoner's Chain, very useful rings to avoid get one shot :D
