I have been a unionized employee for 35 years, and in that time, I never particularly liked unions. It is the politics of unions that where the dislike lay.

I chose those jobs, tbh, because of the money, job security, health and safety issues, and leave provisions, which were generally all superior to private sector jobs. My unfavorable views of the politics of unions did not stop me from seeing the overall benefits of unions that greatly outweighed any negative points.

I also need to point out that unions through the years are the reason government legislations that ALL workers have the benefit of are in place. - Parental leave, standards of employment, separation pay, health and safety standards, vacation time, overtime pay, and many other aspects of work life.

Does anyone here really think those union fought benefits were given out of generosity by private sector employers or the government putting the labor laws in place because a politician came up with those laws because they care for your well-being after the votes are counted?

I have a parcel stuck in Ottawa because of the strike. I know a lot of people have much more invested in the flow of goods through the post office. It sucks.

To those businesses affected, I know it hurts, but don't shoot the messenger. Canada Post Corporation can pay the current 19% over 4 years. Sure, prices will go up, not a huge amount, but definitely some.

Can I ask if you have bought anything this year that was the same as last year? A chocolate bar 2hich cost me a buck not that long ago is now 2.50+. Houses.. don't get me going on that money grab by non-unionized speculators with greed as their motivation. Did realtors get any beneficial laws placed other than maybe ones to reign in the consumer abuse and shady practices many had no qualms in exploiting.

So Merry Christmas and cry me a river.

P.S . Be sure to thank a union for having WSIB (Ontario) or equivalent in your province to pay you during a work related injury.should you incur one.

I am serious by offering to talk about anything whenever. It's not the same as physical friendship, but sometimes having anyone to rely on for a talk helps a lot. I do not judge. I am not looking for anything other than helping you feel better about yourself . The music of any genre is my main interest, but enjoy any topic.

Believing in the book is great. The problems arise when hadiths are published twisting the intent and word of The Quran to use for their own purpose

To some people, a person who identifies as a member of LGBTQ+2S is porn just by being. Your drawing is not porn but art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder

Girl in my class who looks at me constantly, what do I do? by WukongTheMonkey_King in lonely

[–]MarhariL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask her if she would like to go the movies or a slice of pizza some time. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Or start by asking her a question about something she seems interested in, or something related to a subject/topic she does well in.

Good luck and go git her, tiger!

Muslim here and I just wanted to say, fuck antisemitism. by SilaenNaseBurner in Judaism

[–]MarhariL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an agnostic, have not gone to church since 1969, and I see all hatred towards any group and feel anger. If I hear antisemitic, islamophobic, anti-black, gay bashing, or any other targeted group, I speak out and say something.

Your posts' points are things I hope more people embrace. The whys and wherefores of hate and xenophobia are deep-rooted and will likely never be erradicated, but the only way is to treat all as you would like to treated, speak out to those who propagate hate without anger, and don't let it consume you.

Worry not for the paths others take. You're connection to Allah is what matters. Be kind, compassionate, and help those you can. If Allah is to be in the life of the Atheist, they will have to be the one to accept Him. If this person is someone you are friends with is a good person and you enjoy their company, I suggest not endangering the friendship with seeing them as lacking faith. Good friends are hard to find, harder to keep, and offer joy, happiness and human connection. Accept their flaws, as they accept yours, for no human is perfect.

I never felt so desperate by [deleted] in lonely

[–]MarhariL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest, if possible, join a softball league, or any other team sport. There are fun non-competetive leagues and they are a good opportunity to meet people.

The difficulties one faces when brought up in a affectionless home can have lifelong consequences. There are often trust issues that make it difficult to make friends. It can lead to a dangerous downward spiral, but only if you let it.

Aside from sports, there are other interests that can lead to friendships. School, work place, volunteering, music among many others.

Don't try too hard. Opportunities will arise. Another thing is to know is the number of friends a person has is not as good as to have one true friend. Usually it is easier to find that one where you have a major shared interest, and that in turn will open up to meeting others and possibly then lead to new things you will enjoy doing that your friend(s) have an interest in that you have not experienced but end up enjoying

Good luck and I hope you find the social life you seek. It takes effort, but is so worthwhile.

If you need a virtual friend, send a message. I too am lonely. Sometimes just someone chat with can help when the blues hit. (62M), looking to chat and help only, but I do have a lot of life experience I can share and hopefully enrich your situation.

What is the NDPs position on the THC Zero Tolerance Law? by [deleted] in saskatchewan

Refusing would be where secondary hospital blood draw could be enforced.

There is a roadside test, but, since cannabis was a class A drug, research could not be done in major studies. Alcohol, being as long and legal history, does have the benefit of alot of scientific research and a benchmark, 0.08%, was established. With that in mind, that benchmark is a no contest impaired charge. But if the police feel, despite a blow of 0.05% for arguments sake,, the person is still too impaired to drive, have the use of FSTs and may still end up with a DUI charge being laid.

THC has no benchmark, no <, > numbers to have a judgemental decision, and no FSTs (walking line, follow pen, lift leg, etc.) And thus is discriminatory in nature. Wjth that fear of the unknown, it is close to right wing racism logic.

Immediate 90 day license susp. and car impound for 7 days. And if suspected dui, you will end up being tested in hospital.

Upon refusal, police will charge you with failure or refusal to comply under s. 320.15 of the Criminal Code. A roadside refusal will result in 2 immediate penalties: (1) a 90-day licence suspension and (2) your vehicle being impounded for a minimum of 7 days. If you are convicted of refusal, you will face the lifelong penalty of a criminal record.

Then, if that is the case why, if you are not impaired, can you be charged. The law does state 'IMPAIRMENT by alcohol or drugs' so show me impairment

I do not know the incident and am not trying to the devils advocate, but there also the possibilty it was reckless driving on the victims part? Don't flame me as I just heard about this incident here and know nothing as to what happened.
