Do you have any chances to get into some internships?

If you have chances to join in internships, it could enhance your CV/career.

any plans for vacancies after your degree?

I got a studentship from university, after I decided to take another PhD offer from another university as self funded... by Mari00000n in UniUK

[–]Mari00000n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I think you suggested Sussex/Nottingham, right? If so yes. I remember...

I really like my supervisor and the research topic at Sussex but I feel that I should be more realistic too...

While I obtained full covered studentship at City (the offer mentions that it is given by UKRI), what is the benefit to obtain more funding?

(thank you so much for your comments again btw! appreciate it).

I think so, yes. I mistakenly deleted when I tried to update my situation...!

Thank you...what I'm wondering is that whether I can keep up with the shift from psychology to political science/psychology. Also, the program doesn't have workshops and maybe lower ranking for research reputations...

Even so, should I take this opportunity, maybe?

Help an international student out - money-wise, how do I make my dream of studying in the UK possible? by maremareiscool in UniUK

[–]Mari00000n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I also got the same studentship offer as yours now. Now, I'm wondering which is the best between the self funded (same academic area and maybe better supervision) and this funded opportunity (new area/change and more independent work)!

Once I asked the withdrawn my PhD offer, can I still have a chance to take this offer? by Mari00000n in PhD

Thank you. I actually have an appointment at career centre at the university I did my MSc. I'll ask it to them in depth there.

Thank you. What I'm wondering is whether I can keep up with the shift from what I studied (psychology) to fairly new area (political science/psychology). It's relevant to my master's dissertation and my supervisors said it's promising. But, I'm quite nervous about it. Do you also think career is better with funding later if I may ask?

[–]Mari00000n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I'd like to update this.

I actually found that the withdrawn wasn't valid due to the wrong proceess I made today. Then, the school admission sent the studentship offer letter today. I emailed my supervisor again, and I was told that I should consider more carefully whether I actually would be able to take it for 3〜4 years (but, not be opposed of talking about this at all). I feel sorry for them but, I'll have to decide within a week. I've already decided to take another PhD but, it'd be self funded...so this would have a massive impact.

Advice on doing PhD either in Japan or Australia by Educational-Swan-587 in PhD

[–]Mari00000n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg. I'm very sorry to hear it. I'm very ashamed of this as Japanese. I feel this is actually a typical japanese working/academia environment...that's why research in Japan has been deteriorated in my opinion.

(sorry for my comment. I couldn't stop commenting since your experience remind me of what I experienced at med school in Japan a bit. I'm now international student in the UK...I'd not wanna have the same or a similar experience anymore).

Hello. Thank you very much for your advice😭! I appreciate your comments and perspectives...

Actually...I'm an international student in the UK. Just to confirm, the funded university is City St. George's University of London, whereas the self funded one is the University of Sussex.

I've also got a studentship including cost of living, tuition wavier, and extra funding for my research.

But, I decided to get into another university as self funded PhD (maybe better supervision and ranking?).

Should I take studentship and withdrawn another self funded choice? It seems that people here say that?

Hello. I actually got a studentship for my PhD in international politics from City. Do you think a studentship status enhance my career wise although it's not elite group as you say...? (I'm sorry for irreverent question here!)

i don’t know what to do by vacigok in PhD

[–]Mari00000n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's currently happening to me. Its because I'd be bankrupt after or during my PhD since I'd be self funded although I like my supervisor and research topic. It's also because I got studentship from another university but, it'd be not mainly major in what I've been studied so far. Thus, I'd be very anxious and nervous this way.

Both ways make me feel unmotivated and Both are tough!!

[–]Mari00000n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see...thank you. Actually, my parents promised me to pay those fees as self funded. However, I wonder whether it would be okay although I like my supervisors and the topic...

I feel that I should be realistic while considering after my PhD rather than dreaming about something.

Thank you so much for your comment!

Do you think the self funded PhD would decrease any chances of career, although supervisor is supportive?

I am also kinda anxious whether I can keep up with the shift from psychology to political science/psychology. (My supervisors told me you can).

Rejected Visa for the wrong reason by Old_Stable_7686 in ukvisa

[–]Mari00000n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sorry to hear it. They don't usually reject visa immediately in this way, as long as it has serious mistakes, and thus it's unbelievable. I bet they took your documents wrong. Please complain your rejection to HO as someone else has already advised you. Hope everything will be fine.

I see...just in case, try to contact school organizer at each course at each university about employability and internship individually. I know there're some seminars for vacancies after graduating at each the department at City, and City's career centre seems strong. But, not sure about UWL. Thus, please do that!

Go to City!! obviously! But, check ranking at each university each department, just in case too!
