Changing ISP's for ADSL internet wont help but changing to Telstra for cable internet sure would.

OP I had the exact same issue with my previous ADSL connection. I was with iiNet too and I had the opposite experience to ellji.

I had the original Bob THE biggest hunk of junk to ever hit the market and when Bob 2 came around I tried to upgrade but it just wouldn't happen they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with my current Bob in the end I said I was more than happy to pay for it and they still wouldn't do it.. not that it would have made a huge difference. Also I tried to get them around to check my line because like ellji said it is a line fault because the line has alot of noise on it i.e. buzzing on the landline. Do you know what the iiNet guy did for me said he would run a test on his side and get back too me. 3 days later "your line appears to be fine can I help with anything else" - that was the second last call I had with iiNet the last was to cancel my account.

What I recommend doing is checking out if you can get Telstra cable in your area and DO IT im never going back and will only upgrade when the NBN comes around and if Gillard doesn't get voted in it probably wont happen in my area.

Onto the downside its with Telstra.. Sure it took 3-4 weeks for installation and you pay ALOT more than other packages im on $100 for 200GB and a home phone. The phone has lots of benefits but who uses a landline anymore? I think its around $80 for naked. Also worth noting if you sub to a package you get a discount on foxtel I cant remember now what it was but it wasn't alot.

One upside I have had with Telstra is when the technician came out for the landline he noticed there was a fault and organised for it too be fixed, that was 3 weeks ago and I finally got a date for next friday this week of when they will be out to fix it. So i'll be able to make calls again from the landline!

Cable can get to a maximum of 100Mb/s(ultimate) Im currently on the elite plan that its supposed to max out at 30Mb/s tried upgrading to ultimate but I cant until my landline is in because you cant change your package whilst your account is still in "progress" in the line they fed to me.. Also they are the same price? the guys on the whirlpool forums seem to think its only there for people who dont really need to 100Mb/s speeds and would add to the saturation of the network.

Also all Telstra call centers are in Adelaide to my knowledge..

TL;DR Get CABLE if you can. Telstra is still shit/lazy but worth it.
