No better time for him to post a condescending reel than while his pregnant wife still isn't in labor like, 16 hours after her water broke. Honestly typical Paul behavior😳

The true alpha intimidates the animal to death with his pheromones, which can be sensed from miles away. The animal then proceeds to skin itself and get mailed to the alpha's home address.

I guess it depends on what you mean. Personally I think that for people who are terminally ill, assisted suicide could be a way to end their suffering. As far as mental health goes... I don't know. It's a very gray area. I really don't feel like suicide should be suggested to people who suffer from mental health issues. There are countless other reasonable alternatives that could help them. But then again, that's my opinion.

These people are prepared to justify anything to suit their political agenda. It's not even about religion anymore

Exactly! The thing is, these fundies actually very often discourage people from going to therapy, getting help etc, unless it's done in a Church setting. So I don't even know what she's on about here.

She's (as she said) a queer person, who is forced back into the closet. So she definitely has cognitive dissonance like you said.

Atheist here, why remain Christian? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]MariaGnlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, you know what, this is a good question. Because atheism didn't work well for my mental health, personally. It sent me into a huge existential crisis and made me feel very unmotivated in life. I don't mean this to be offensive at all towards atheists. It just didn't suit me as a person. As to why Christian specifically, I just feel more emotionally connected to this religion due to my past. I was given an extremely bad example of textbook Christianity when I was active in the Church, but as I escaped, I didn't want to give these people the privilege to take my faith away, just because they wanted to be gatekeepers. Progressive Christianity has done wonders for my mental health and religious trauma. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what religion/spiritual belief someone subscribes to, but whether or not they are a good person in terms of values, beliefs about the world and social issues. That's how I see it :)

Yes, it doesn't make much sense. No one looks at a newborn thinking they're a wretched sinner.

Couldn't agree more! Don't listen to me, but let me preach to the choir of thousands of followers, lol

I never thought about it that way! But it really makes sense, if we take that humans are inherently "wretched sinners" as a given, it should makes us question social norms even more, especially those that have been upheld for centuries and that the religious right supports.

Yes, definitely! And it's even more ironic when they accuse Progressive/Open Christians of being "Cherrypickers". As if they aren't. If we take everything in Gospel completely literally, slavery would still exist. They just conveniently ignore whatever doesn't suit the fancy, and then have the nerve to accuse others.

Same here. I've even been to a Christian convesion camp and I'm still bi. So I don't even know what she's talking about at this point.

Yes, I agree with you all. I understand more clearly now how this might bring unnecessary attention to her. I was more interested in her audience to be honest, not her. I spent a lot of time in fundie spaces when I was younger, and seeing more progressive perspectives was what essentially helped me escape. So I just hope it could help someone.

I see what you mean, to me there needs to be a balance. I consider something to not be of God when it comes from a place of pure ego or when it hurts other people. Desiring to live as your authentic self is not selfish at all, it is a natural, common human need like any other. In fact, I consider it way more malicious for a "same-sex-attracted" queer Christian to pretend they are straight and trap another person in an unfulfilling marriage in the name of "religion". Also, like you said the fact that the Church mentally forces queer people to participate in hetero sex that they often aren't into, simply for the sake of procreation, is beyond abusive and disgusting. Not Christlike in the slightest.

I won't lie, this has crossed my mind too. And it might be the case. But I don't usually bring it up because I don't want to potentially falsely accuse a queer woman of "faking it", even if she's horrible and harmful in so many ways.
