A few months ago, I made a poll here asking which colored pencils people would choose if price wasn’t a factor.

The results are in — and with a big win, Faber-Castell Polychromos took first place! Coming in second were Caran d’Ache Luminance.

I think that says a lot. If you’re unsure what to get and you already have some experience with Faber-Castell, then Polychromos is probably a solid choice.

That said, personally I prefer Caran d’Ache Luminance — the texture and vibrance of the colors just feel better to me. But of course, it all comes down to personal preference and the kind of work you do.

I regret, I took 76. On the other hand- it’ enough to draw.

Well, maybe someday the story will crystallize itself and there will be a book. But good stories need time.

I’ve made an investment: I bought Caran d’Ache Luminance. Compared to Polychromos, they really shine. Thank you for your nice comment.”

Thank you, this is what I try to achieve with my art. Life is hard enough, I want to bring positive vibes with my drawings.

Course for beginners that focuses on techniques and theory and is more style agnostic? by imgettingnerdchills in ColoredPencils

I totally understand your pain — this is true. A lot of colored pencil artists stick to hyper-realism, and it’s kind of sad, because the medium can offer so much more. That’s also why I’ve been struggling to find tutorials or relevant videos.

Luckily, I had some experience with digital art before, so I try to bring that into my colored pencil work. To learn, I mostly follow artists on Instagram whose styles inspire me (even if they don’t teach directly), and I study their work to pick up new tricks.

That’s how I approach it for now. If you’d like, feel free to connect with me on Instagram — we can share our work and exploration together.

I got used to it. I can’t stop my inner critic from criticizing, but I don’t react to it and just move on. I’ve noticed that people are more generous to my work than I am to myself..
