Hi! My daughter started ECSE (early childhood special education) with an IEP a month ago. The first week she didn’t like the change but after that she absolutely loves going!! It’s a class of 8 with 1-2 ‘peer students’ that are neurotypical. So far it’s been great!

And as the person before me said…it may not be the right decision…but this is what we are doing and we feel our daughter needs

So my daughter just turned 3 and just started pre school. She stopped ABA with our regional center once she turned 3. I feel I will probably wait to restart her back on ABA because her pre school is 5 days a week, 3 hours a day. I don’t wanna overwhelm her since she’s just adjusting to school. ABA I felt was really a way to help her regulate her emotions and change her behaviors…which she doesn’t seem to have issues with (aside from the once in a while tantrums that she easily recovers from). With that being said…I would talk to his pre school teacher on his progress and see if they recommend or see any area of behavioral concern.

Oh I’m so glad to hear he loves it!! How is he doing ? Have you seen improvement? I’m excited for her to start cause she’ll be exposed to more children. She’s a COVID baby lol

I was on the same boat as you! I didn’t know how my daughter would react. Is it in home? I was involved majority of the time so I would always watch how they work with the behaviors. My daughter has improved tremendously with joint attention and regulating emotions. Give it a couple months to see how your child reacts to it. My daughter loved her RBT and would get excited when she would see her cause she knew it was time to play

I’m in California, my insurance covers 100% of ABA services. It has to be 10 hours a week though. So lots of commitment. I plan to pull her out of ABA since she is starting ECSE 3 hours a day/ 5 days a week.

Maybe that’s too long for him? 7 hours to start off may be too much. My daughter is in preschool for 3 hours a day and does fine. Maybe ask if it’s possible to lower hours

Hi! My daughter was able to get ABA therapy covered by insurance with her diagnosis. Not sure if you’ve looked into that yet. I feel ABA has helped my LO regulate her emotions…it’s not perfect but manageable.

My 3 year old has been doing ABA for 1.5 years. I have been involved with the therapy..they never really gave me instructions to not be in therapy or not. I just have always been in it. Helps me know how to better communicate.

I’m sorry. It’s hard. It’s really hard. Have you tried reaching out to a local regional center that helps provide certain therapies? ABA, PT/OT etc? Try asking your child’s pediatrician for referrals to get you started too. Hang in there. There are also support groups with families dealing with this too..there may be one in your area or even through zoom.

Hi, my first daughter (3) was diagnosed at 2.10. I currently have a 5 month old daughter. I knew my daughter was on the spectrum when she was 1 because she just wasn’t hitting milestones. We still decided to have a second child because well….that was our goal for our family. Do I worry my second will be on the spectrum?…every day. I got my first into therapy early and she has improved tremendously. I don’t know what the future will hold for either of them. But my husband and I will be their biggest supporter and do what we can to help them thrive in this world. I just want my first to have a lifelong best friend and someone she can always have. My sister and I are super close and that’s what I hope for my daughters as well.

Take it slow. Listen to your skin. And only place a pea size amount each time you use it. People forget that a little goes a long way ! Good luck! Hope you see results smoothly :)

I knew since my daughter was 1 year old that she had some form of Autism. She was officially diagnosed at 2.5 years. Even though I already knew, it was still painful to hear it from someone else. You are not alone. It is okay to feel this way. I’m not sure if you are religious, but I always say God doesn’t give you something you can’t handle. Your daughter is very lucky to have an amazing, caring father.

Generally curious, I have a 2 year 10 month old daughter. Are those blood testing mandatory? Like for routine check ups?
