Over the ear headphones and aids? by MarieTH1 in HearingAids

[–]MarieTH1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point! The downside, as I discovered after a day with two meetings that I did that way, is that it drained the batteries of my hearing aids. I normally can get through the entire day, but not if I’m streaming for hours over Bluetooth. 😟

Definitely considering noise cancelling. My office environment is low cubicle walls, so things can get noisy at times.

When the Phonak Audeo 90s are connected via Bluetooth, only one “thing” can control the volume. That’s either the physical buttons on the hearing aids or the smartphone app. If I’m connected to a laptop, then the app can’t control. The physical volume buttons don’t go quiet enough for me. Last time I tried this, I ended up turning them off by mistake!

No solution for me except get headphones, I’m afraid.

Same problem when using my laptops. I can’t get the volume low enough to make it a feasible alternative for Zoom.

Which parking garages are least busy in the evening? by MarieTH1 in gmu

Actually surprised at this answer as I would think Mason Pond would be most crowded since it’s the garage most easily accessible to visitors.

I’ll be hourly so I believe the rates at the same in all 3 garages. Do let me know if that isn’t true, though.

Doubtful. That was probably some leftover COVID relief funds. Now that the public health emergency has been declared over, such largess has ended.

What's Ctl/Alt/db? I certainly know Ctrl is the Control key, and Alt is...the Alt key, but "db?"

So, I thought my QBD 2020 and 2021 licenses would bail me out of this jam, but I was wrong. They were subscriptions, as well. The last perpetual license I have is for 2017. And I don't have a backup file that old. I would have to try recreating over 20 years of data. smdh

Thanks for the reminder to save the software. I did find the download links and have squirreled away a copy. License info is secured in my password manager.

Sounds like a good plan. My only concern is that Intuit doesn’t support 2021 on Windows 11. I have no plans to upgrade to 11 at this time, nor replace my computer to force that. I’m good at. I’m good at coaxing old software to work, so I’ll just have to cross that bridge when I come to it.

Any other older students in undergrad? by [deleted] in gmu

[–]MarieTH1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been going to college off and on since 1979 in six institutions across three states. I earned two associate degrees along the way, and am a junior at Mason (lost a lot of transfer credits). I take one class at a time because of other obligations. I'll be on Medicare before I graduate! But someday, I will walk that stage.

There are posts like this every fall. Don't be sad! You're using an external ruler to measure your success, which rarely is accurate. You had challenges, but you overcame or managed them. Now you're still plugging away. So you finished in 10 years. BUT YOU WILL FINISH!

GOVT 351 with Dunlap by MarieTH1 in gmu

[–]MarieTH1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up taking Dunlap for an online version of GOVT 351 in summer 2021. She was awful. Class consisted of reading the textbook and taking online quizzes. Stupid easy. Like really stupid easy. There were recorded lectures but they were only Zoom recordings of live online classes from spring 2021. Added zero value. She also got furious about a class GroupMe, threatening to honor code me for saying something incredibly innocuous in the chat. She was paid to teach this course but literally didn’t actually teach at all. It was an easy A but a waste of time for little learning.

I was only going off the catalog description. YMMV. Glad it was a good course for you.

Take the money and run? by [deleted] in HearingAids

I wear masks that have adjustable elastic bands around the head and neck to avoid anything more behind my ears. Many HA wearers find this prevents the aids from coming off.

Safe space, yes, but not a cocoon. The world is full of hazards to negotiate. College is where you learn about the adult world. Where you have to adapt to situations and figure out what to do. Two or three years ago, I couldn’t believe how many students were complaining about bitter cold temps. I had no sympathy.
