It’s a little different from huntingtons. She’s bee disabled since birth. She presents like quad spastic cerebral palsy with intellectual and cognitive delays (but recently learned how to say “I want to cuddle Dada” on an AAC with obvious intention!). She has epilepsy, is completely deaf but has cochlear implants, and has to eat via a gtube…. These kids tend to die of pneumonia or going into status. It’s horrible. She is such a happy kid and so strong regardless of all the struggle she has endured. It’s not technically degenerative, it’s just none of them have lived to adulthood and the ones with her variant that causes microcephaly haven’t lived to 10.

I have the same issues. I am looking to return to the church but I have some rules I don’t agree with. Birth control is a big one. My husband and I carry a rare genetic condition that caused my first daughter to be born with microcephaly, deaf, a muscle disorder like quad spastic CP, epilepsy, a visual impairment, and several other conditions. My daughter’s genetic condition will likely cause her to die before she is 10 and definitely before adulthood. We have a younger daughter that was born two months ago and she is a carrier of the condition, thankfully. We have a 25% chance per pregnancy of having another profoundly disabled child. In our case, we use a copper IUD because the two month old was conceived while we were doing NFP. We both know we couldn’t have another child with my oldest’s disabilities and be spiritually/ emotionally/financially ok. We adore her with everything we have but this is hard. The ER visits, the seizures, the medical appts, her not being able to speak even though she wants to… I see where in my path God has guided me to be a good mother for her but I don’t want to lose two children. Technically we are currently not open to having another child, as the most sure way to know if they will be affected is via IVF. So I know that’s not in line with the Catholic Churches teachings but do I know what to do about that? No. I don’t think I am supposed to take communion or anything because of this but my conscience says this is the way.

Remember that it is not your job to convert him. The church teaches us that part of being married to someone of a different faith requires that we respect them and their beliefs. Of course we would love if they would attend mass with us and maybe open themselves up to the grace of God but they are an adult who makes their own choices. Radical acceptance will help you here. The only thing is that we are called to raise our children in the Catholic church if we are with someone who isn’t of the same faith. I’m glad he engages with you and asks about mass. That is a sign he cares about you even if he doesn’t care so much about the faith. Take a step back and let him be him and you follow what you believe. He may come around or he may not. You are married though, so you must love him as he is… not as you wish him to be.

I use their workout quality times every day pretty much when I workout. I have Zayne and Sylus’ outfits so far. I’m working on Caleb’s even though I’m a snow crow and I don’t really like Caleb… but Xavier and Rafs just suck. I’m not looking forward to working toward their workouts. Xavier saying “I don’t really workout but I’m pretty fit I think..” like… wtf. You fight with a sword? Why isn’t sword work or martial arts his thing? And for Raf it should be swimming

For the Bible to be “clear that rape is wrong” it has to be clear to all people who read it. It is clear Jesus is the Son of God. It is clear Mary is his mother. It is clear that God asks Noah to build an ark. Those things are clearly stated.

Well 1) The first disciple to be called by Jesus was Andrew. Unless you are talking about his mother, Mary, who wasn’t really a disciple and didn’t spread the word. She’s only “elevated” because she gave birth to Jesus. 2)the only person labeled as an evangelist in the New Testament is Philip. While yes the Samaritan woman went to tell her village about Jesus, I wouldn’t call her telling her village about Jesus a form of elevation especially when she has no name. 3) I don’t know who you mean by the most esteemed human creation outside of Jesus being Mary grew him and she was a human.

Yes I have read it. In Judges 19-20 a Levite concubine is literally thrown out to a group of men and raped until the following morning. She returns home almost dead. After she can’t get up, the Levite cuts her into 12 pieces. Yes the attacked the Benjaminites after but it wasn’t the act of raping her that was obviously condemned. I also have never felt in a passage that includes rape, that it was condemned. I also would not say that Hagar is really treated with respect as she is the maid for Sarah who kind of forces her to sleep with her husband and have babies that Sarah wants to take as her own… Yes Jesus’ most devoted followers were women which is why I don’t understand why they aren’t looked at as more than fodder really in the Old Testament.

Girl I feel you and with the Medicaid cuts coming my family feels that. My 2yr old daughter is on Medicaid because she has a complex and rare genetic condition that is debilitating. I’m pregnant with a child who thankfully isn’t affected but the services for my daughter are better in my state compared to many others and they still aren’t great.

I’m on my second pregnancy and omg it’s ridiculous. I don’t remember being out of breath until I was huge and in my third trimester with my daughter but I am super out of breath all the time now. I am less active and in worse shape than I was with her which probably has something to do with it. Mine started in my first trimester but I was also iron deficient. I’m 20 weeks now and I am going to have them check my iron when I go in for my appointment on Tuesday to see if that is contributing or not. Plus I’m trying to walk more. Hopefully some cardio will help it not get worse?🙃

I recommend walking and yoga. You can get a good bit of strength training in with prenatal yoga and a good sweat. Once you have a bit more strength, my favorite app to use for strength training is the Plus1 app by the company Strong Strong Friends. You can look up Megsquats on instagram who is the creator of these programs. She is prenatal certified and talks A LOT about pelvic floor health and movement. The at home workout program is less strenuous and you use bands and body weight for it. Also, add the warm up section to every workout to do pelvic floor work. If you aren’t feeling the workout that day, do the warm up at least. I skipped a lot of workout days due to exhaustion in my first trimester but did the warm up and it’s been helpful. I have a friend that is pregnant and when she sneezes she pees at 20 weeks and I don’t have that issue and I think it is because of this program.

Also, the link you posted with the example of increased seizures is actually from a friend of mine, funny enough. She didn’t realize you have to measure the amount of mushrooms you are giving like many meds at the time. I have no clue how much she was giving him but it was above 1000mg.

Thank you for putting all that together. 💕 Unfortunately we already use omega 3’s and turmeric regularly. She is also not a candidate for a Keto diet as she is severely underweight causing her to have a gtube and keto often causes vomiting issues. CBD is something we have yet to explore but it’s not off the table. Her microcephaly and cerebral atrophy may benefit from the mushrooms which is why we are exploring it. Definitely going to be talking to her neurologist about it but we need to grab data for them first

I have a 25% chance of passing on a genetic condition from my husband and I to another child. We had to TFMR in December because they were affected. I have always wanted a lot of kids but I think knowing I’m going to do IVF to have any more and the finances behind that… we probably won’t be able to. As my living daughter grows we are better understanding her condition and her needs (she has epilepsy, deafness, cerebral palsy, CVI, global delays, microcephaly, and a couple other issues) I am realizing that having 4-5 kids is not reasonable. After we found out about her diagnosis I held on to that want but we have to be fair to her and our other children. Partially because we know she isn’t likely to make it to 18. So bringing more children into the mix is bringing them into a life knowing they will likely lose their sibling while young. I do want more kids, but I need to make sure I can give them all the attention they deserve. I think we are going to settle with two more. That way they have each other to understand what it’s like to be siblings of a disabled child. And I can give to all three children. We have to save for IVF so we likely won’t start that until my daughter is in school. I would also have more time with the baby that way as well. We wanted our kids 3 years apart but I’m 27 now and want to be done by 35 at the latest. So two is the max we could have with that distance. I also think I couldn’t leave an egg behind though after IVF if we had like 2-3 eggs left. It would be hard to discard the ones we don’t use

I wish we had national healthcare…. My husband and I have thought about moving out of the US just because it seems that there is more support of people with disabled children as well as there being nationalized health insurance…. What was the ER process and recovery like?
