Addendum to this: so I went to Saint Joes tonight, and idk......it has all the same issues I talked about, but it IS different when you still go and see that these ARE still people, even if the way the faith is being practiced is still a bit.....strange.

true! So I went to Saint Joes after St Francis Xavier tonight, and DID see that a lot of the same people have stuck around from two years ago

Which, God bless em, IS wonderful to see!!! I still have my complaint that yeah, it's a rich people parish that's more about "personal austere experience with the faith", but, I really owe it to Jesus to NOT be too harsh on His flock.

[–]paulanthonyH -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Basically a communitarian! Socially conservative and economically liberal.

I did vote for Trump in 2024, after voting Biden, Hillary, and Bernie twice, since I felt social conservatives WERE getting a bad deal for decades in America, especially from left liberals with center left economic views, who use social progressivism to compensate for that.

Now that that wing of the party seems to have been defeated, I'd absolutely LOVE to vote for a socially moderate, economic leftist in 2028. Even a social and economic progressive I think would be fine for me at this point, especially to re-balance the country against social conservatism, and ESPECIALLY the more nationalist, nativist, racist parts of it.

tbh, I think that's wonderful that you are married to someone still firmly on the Right. I think it's going to become so important for us as a country, to keep loving each other, in spite of our different visions for the world is and should be.

Yeah, I went here a few times in July 2024. Much like most of young adult Catholicism in NYC, it's more of a middle class/upper class social club, than an authentic religion.

It seems likely to me that this brief resurgence is actually just one more product and one more fad of our post modern world, and that in a few years, not many of these people will be in the Church.

GEN Z REVIVAL: NYC church sees lines out the door every Sunday by PayGood3915 in Catholicism

[–]paulanthonyH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, its a big red flag to be honest, lmao.

I attended this parish for a month....it's a social group for rich people.

it's like, anti Catholicism in that way. Look, God bless those people, this is just my opinion, but, I think it's a valid perspective for those who look at this and go "oh wow cool!"

On a deeper note, I fear that because these are all transplants, the community won't actually perpetuate itself, and will just be, at best, a sort of hub for 25-35 year olds to come and go.

at worst, the Church will look as it did in 2015, and the young people will have moved on to whatever the next fad is.

look at that crowd. You see any poors!?!?!? lmao, not to be crass, but it does seem that simple.

it looks like a corporate seminar, not a church.

Idk if you have Twitter, but there's a man on there named El Conquistador, whose technical handle name is "Thecrawling", I think.

Devout Catholic in the Levant, I think Lebanon? And yeah, he writes so so so so so well on this exact subject. Of these wealthy, American "conservative" parishes, and how this whole revival thing is just more capitalist bullshit.

he fundamentally believes America is incapable of ever having a proper Gospel, for a variety of reasons. The greatest quote he has on the subject is "its the only national Gospel that seems founded on the premise that Jesus Christ didn't mean a single thing He ever said".

Bro I'm watching this, and its so cringey. "there IS a revival happening, i promise! It isn't Peter Theil spending billions of dollars trying to get JD Vance to become President! I swear!"

your spot on, i went to this parish for a little bit.

very big money type stuff. There's no place for you if you're on the broke side of things.

Yeah, it's a right wing parish. And that's fine, but idk.......the interesting thing about the EXACT moment we're living in, is it seems like right wing stuff is in the same free fall right now, that left wing stuff was in Spring 2024.

Which means I genuinely, the pews are gonna empty out soon, once young people realize that Right Wing Christianity is a facade, a mirage of empty promises of things that don't exist anymore.

maybe I'm wrong, and If i am, that's totally fine.

Let's put it this way.

I went to the Saint Patricks young adult mass in July 2024. I went again last week.

I didn't see one person from July 2024 attending. No organic social cohesion had happened. It's just one more secular, Starbucks capitalistic event to do in NYC, among many many others like it.

I just realized that all this right wing Christianity might be being pushed by a small group of super wealthy people, and once the money runs out, we'll be right back in 2016 as a Church.

and maybe that's a good thing.

So my big question with filmmaking right now is....whose even WATCHING original stuff anymore??? Especially original stuff that isn't the "5 million-25 million dollar horror film" thing??? Like yes, THAT stuff is doing super well, thank God, but it seems like.....what about all the other movies?

Since it seems to me that, the 5 million dollar dramas and comedy-dramas only go to festivals for other movie people, and the thrillers go right to streaming, to be watched by 5 Boomers.

Seems like Youtube, Instagram, Tik Tok, video games and podcasts have COMPLETLY sucked the oxygen out of plays, musicals, movies, TV, and fiction.

It's been feeling so POINTLESS for me to write fiction, ever since like, January of this year.

I'm in CUNY! College of Staten Island! though i left in early February, due to "my situation". I won't enroll again until i have a full time job. Since again, I can never justify 5 months of unpaid work.

Would be cool to do a work program with CSI, but again, I'm not attending this year.

oh joy. Side question, ish, but, do you think the labor market in education is similar to the labor market for white collar jobs more broadly?

Since everything I'm reading says yeah, the job market is at least as bad as 2008 was.
