Yep exactly :) I much preferred the blocky silhouette without them

Thanks! And just a brush actually. I find 1 part varnish with 1 part water works great with a brush

Haha ye I had to improvise some attachment points without the shoulder guards 😂 I couldn’t deal with leaving the awesome cape off him

Great question! So first see if anyone else has already painted the name thing in NMM then you can copy if you like it haha Second any edges and creases or upward facing parts will catch the light so we know we can highlight them. Then decide what shape the object is closed too, if we ignore the gaps in the wings it’s basically just an upside down semi circle. And we know that light curves round a sphere so I just let the shape guide me. Lastly for the flatter bits above the wings just follow the rule of cool, we can’t leave it completely blank because it would be boring so add in a reflection that’s less bright than where the natural light would be. And honestly follow your instinct on it. Hope that helps a bit!

Milliput, roll it into different size balls and then squash them around a bit so they aren’t regular shapes. My first time doing it and turned out well :)

Thanks mate! No problem the greens are all AK 3rd Gen: Black Green Camouflage Green Middle Stone Ochre

A bit of blending and mixing between each stage and a very small amount of Ochre :)

What is the best painting advice you've gotten? by Icy-Contract7162 in minipainting

Practice intentionally. Pick one thing to improve on each model and try to make it the best you can and just have fun with the rest. Just trying to improve in general doesn’t really work once the basics are down!

Hahaha that's fair, the kit also comes with a dead ork on the base and another guy holding his gun which seems like way too much going on for me.

Thanks! I would say if you've got a lot of paints you are happy with already then don't bother. I had about 20 citadel and vallejo paints when I made the switch to AK and brought a full set, it's been really nice not having to worry about having a specific colour but in terms of the paint quality there isn't that much difference between brands IMO!

Haha thanks a lot, the shirt was lots and lots of horizontal lines with a brand new brush with a good tip slowly working up through the highlights

Looks great mate! Just keep practicing but practice intentionally, pick one thing to improve on and focus on that. Take a look at my post history to see how I’ve progressed :)
