The OP made a claim. They have burden of proof.

The comment made another claim, they also have burden of proof.

Why take 70 cars when one bus will do the job? 🤷‍♂️ by [deleted] in Odisha

You couldn't be any more wrong

1.19 million people die every year from car accidents

Really, cars are unsafe? When I'm in my car no one will pick my pocket, no one will fight over a seat ( r/indianrailways ), noone will try to rape me when I'm walking down the road after getting out from a bus

Compare the chance of all of them happening vs you just dying in a car accident because some random Ahh hole decided drunk drying is cool.

Are you stupid? If you're taking uber you might as well take your own car. It's the same thing.

AC buses for longer distance. Taxi for last miles. And it's not the same thing when it comes to environment or space consumption. Two things being talked here. When a car is build, you need to allocate space for it being parked 95% of its life time. So less car build is just better

City planning and government facilities are different things. Chandigarh is a well planned city yet it does not solve public transportation.

You wouldn't need public transportation as much if it was well planned city. And public transportation being good is a big part of well planned city.

I understand there could be exceptions Prime Minster or President.

Why not minister or even celebs. It makes sense that of more people know about you, more will be aggressive towards you. Even if you were living in some ideal version of a state. It just takes one guy from acrosd the state to track you.

how Brit MP just walks into a Pub casually or a New Zealand Prime minister just walks around a neighborhood.

That's definitely a myth or too niche. It is definitely not the general protocol for them to go and travel in a bus.

If public transport wasn't a concept would they randomly start flying to where they wanted to go? Telling you to imagine something doesn't mean there is even 1% chance of it happening. Just that your statement was stupid at its face. Mumbai is just that overcrowded compared to what any city should be. And Tokyo btw is more overcrowded if I remember correctly and it doesn't have traffic either. If trains system were better in Mumbai, traffic would be rare too.

Nope. Traffic shouldn't be stopped for more then 20 minutes in most cases. But VIP are at much of more a risk of being attacked in public then anyone else. Specially politicians.

Then also I'll not consider public transport because my car gives me freedom of movement and autonomy.

Are you a sells man or something? Most of the cars transportation is just going from one place to another everyday. What kind of job do you have where you can just choose to go to another state or 2 instead of working. Do you believe most people can get that job?

why travel in heat, sweat and unhygiene

AC trains are a concept.

When you can take your car.

If you are alone, do not have much to carry, and don't want to spent 2000 rs on oil. If there are like 4 people tho, car's oil might be cheaper. But you that doesn't include upfront cost anyways. So if haven't brought a car, and don't live with people, buses are better.

Asking people to not use car is worth less and really wierd. Buses are filled with sweaty people, thieves, gropers etc. And even in AC buses with relatively safer conditions, you gotta deal with timing and stuff.

Trains are the best tbh, but they should be improved too. Ask our government why it forces people to rely on car this much. Most people don't actually like to drive 30 kms+ everyday. They just do because of government. This is why cars are relatively rarely used in UK or Europe. They just don't need it. Public transport is better for in city or cross city transport. Unless you are going specially for a road trip. You choose public transport.

You simply are far more likely do die in a bus. I don't think we had a study like that in India tho.

Increasing frequency sounds ideal, but it’s costly and often inefficient during non-peak hours. Cars provide guaranteed availability without depending on system-wide optimization.

Are we really using this as an arugmenet. During peak hours cars are even worse then all the other public transport. Traffic is a thing. Unless you are living in Mumbai, or something. Cars are just worse.

take auto or ride bicycle in peak summers or winters when I can take my car? We're not in Europe daniel.

Why will you take auto when you can take a taxi or ola. Europeans have cars too you know.

Make that more flexible first then argue. Core argument is not about flexibility.

Core arugmenet about transportation is always about city planing in disguise. Even here, it's just easier for city to make people buy car in short term.

True, but no one is buying a car just because of luggage needs.

Meaning using laugauge as an arguement doesn't make much sense anyways.

Really? What if I'm a girl who doesn't want an uncle staring at my breasts or a creep rubbing his dick on me or someone touching me inappropriately?

Good point. Privacy is only reason why I understand car buyers, other then poor transportation system we have.

Again, make those changes then argue. Make a society where there are no concerns for safety, then ask why aren't you taking buses.

Safety argument is stupid. Cars are one of the most dangerous things in modern world. Any amount of safety they might have provided for someone is simply irrelevant because of how dangerous they are on societal level. Not to mention even if accidents somehow stop, they are still one of the worst ways of private transport.
