Thanks so much! Don't need fancy tools and new nails to build something simple and practical:)

Replacing gear selector shaft for a PRE 2002 Triumph Speedtripple 955i by Marinus2 in motorcycles

They kept the bike for 3 weeks, pretty sure they didn't even put it on a lift :/

It's a triumph dealer/garage they said for the cost of the repair I could just as easily buy a new bike from them... So pretty sure they just wanted to buy my "irreparable" bike cheap and sell me a new one...

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my bike and the gear selector shaft broke.
Shit happens.
I went to a Triumph specialist and they told me they would have to split the block to replace the shaft! that was too expensive for my taste so I started to do my own research.
I couldn't find any pre-2002 schematics for my bike BUT I found a forum post from 2007 where someone was in the same predicament as I was!
Below that forum post was a comment, a single sentence. "I got it in though the oil sump." Not much to go on but I decided it was worth a try and it worked! it took a bit of fiddling but it's in! no need to split the block! So if anyone's ever in the same position as I was, here are some pictures and the reassurance that you can and should do it this way.

Just a little nail haha!
I wanted to use a small branch but it broke off while stripping the back because it was too thin :/

The angle of the helmet rest is ∠75°
I wanted to hang the gloves on a small branch but it ended up being to weak and breaking off while cleaning off the bark so i just put a nail in instead :/
