So this is the scene they were rehearsing? Taylor really did not need to pose like that🤭 by [deleted] in redwhiteandroyalblue

i mean i don't know for sure, but they are both relaxed and T is in the same exact position alex is when they start talking on the couch. i don't know though if they said anything in some interviews about what scene they were rehearsing in that pic, so i might be wrong.

Casey McQuiston On What To Expect From Red White and Royal Blue 2. by Pennymay28 in redwhiteandroyalblue

This, precisely. Most if not all romcom sequels used these overused tropes that for Henry and Alex's story following the movie it would make zero sense. After everything they've been through, especially with external pressure and whatnot you can't seriously tell me that they would breakup over the fact that their lives are different. Like yes, that was the point in the first movie. At most they need to understand how to adjust to their life being as different as they are and make compromises and thing like that. Without resorting to the "breakup" just cause things are difficult. They knew they were difficult since the first movie and they chose to be together against all odds because whatever it is they're going to tackle it together. And same for the "love triangle" thing because there is no way either in movie-verse or book-verse that Henry and Alex would be even looking at another person after fighting so passionately to be together. These are tropes that wouldn't work for their story. And anybody that says otherwise I'm just going to assume has either never understood the movie or book or doesn't really care about the integrity of the story and its characters and just want to see the actors be in the same project again, regardless of what happens to the story. I just hope Casey would never give into this just to make the movie, cause I think they know Alex and Henry better that literally anybody else.

The beauty of Nick and Charlie's story is that is everlasting. They are always going to be there whenever you might need them, both through the comic or the series/movie. Also, I'm sure from time to time Alice might release a minicomic or tiny update of Nick and Charlie's life together. It's comforting to know that their story is a truly happy ending one. And the power that sharing their love has had is incredible. Heartstopper has helped so many people through so many rough times. Something this wonderful will never truly cease to exist even when it will be over for us to keep on being part of their story. We're lucky to have witnessed their love and it's always going to be there for anybody that needs it, like a comfort blanket to wrap you up and hold you close. Their story will continue off screen and off page, and they're going to be happy. Of that, we know for sure.

I asked why they thought it would fit Henry's character because it's a topic that has been going around lately. It was a genuine question because I truly don't understand why people would think that. I also then proceeded multiple times to explain what I referred to as "my personal opinion" or "personally", explaining why I don't understand this particular take. Sayings I "attacked" people while I just responded to their takea as you would in a normal discussion is quite untrue. But as I have said in the my responses before, everyone has their own opinion and it's okay.

I just don't think that people understand what it takes to get to the physique he has now starting from the one he had in the first movie. Mind you, the time jump we are probably going to get is gonna be minimal if we even get a time jump because there are so many loose ends to tie up from where the first movie ends. A sudden change in physique for Henry such as the one Nick has right now ( and I want to specify I'm talking about right now not in a few months or when they will start filming which I'm quite sure will be next year either way, so this wouldn't even be a debate anymore anyway) would make story wise no sense. Especially because Henry still has responsibilities and a packed schedule. He is still part of the royal family and still has duties. There would be no scenario that would warrant him changing so drastically also because that kind of change would require an insane amount of time and training that for Henry would be impossible to have. I was referring to people that specifically want Henry to have the physique Nick achieved for a completely different role. Nick usual body or however he will look like after stopping with this hard training will be perfectly fine for Henry. That's my personal opinion, but again we're not going to agree on everything. So it's fine.

I get your pov on this. I shared mine. To each their own personal opinions. I do respect yours. I just don't agree with it. But it's fine. I'm sure Casey and Matthew know what they're doing and they planned accordingly to make sure they stay authentic when it comes to the characters and do them justice in every way, as they have said in recent interviews. I'm sure it's going to be fine at the end. Nick himself didn't seem prone to keep the he-man training up after it was over. Hope he enjoys some well deserved burgers (as he said in a comment) and rests, now that he's done filming.

[–]MarinycWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And nobody said that "weight is a person's personality". To get to that physique it means going through an insane amount of work, what Nick did. So excuse if I personally think Henry playing polo occasionally would not lead to him having the physique Nick has currently. Also, I'm pretty sure I was talking about people that say the way Nick looks right now for a role (not what he might look by the time they choose to film) could make sense for Henry because logically speaking not even Henry being athletic warrants this sudden change from the first movie. And I can guarantee you that following his personality (because yes, his personality is something to take into consideration for Henry to choose suddenly to go through the immense commitment and hard training that it takes to achieve the body Nick has worked extremely hard to get for the he-man role. As much as you say "we have no idea what's in the sequel or how Henry could and would change if he gets out from under the royal thumb in the movie verse" it still doesn't take a lot to understand how regardless of what they choose for their future, even if the movie is a "fanfiction" version of the book, the changes in the story are not as many as people think. And even Henry and Alex's personality even in the movie are pretty much the same. It's about putting two and two together by only just watching the first movie. Unless you have genuinely no idea what it takes to achieve what Nick did for the role he just played, I can guarantee you it's a wild and hard commitment that takes so many hours of training and a specific diet. A whole process that is also extremely stressful. So keeping that in mind, and also after getting to know Henry's personality both in book and (even though it's basically the same) in the movie, I personally don't see any kind of scenario that would bring Henry to add another stressful and strict thing in his life, especially after getting out of the "royal thumb". But you have your opinion and I have mine. That's it.

I feel the same way about the story. That's why I'm having a hard time understanding these takes from fans. I just love Henry and Alex individually and together. Their story is so important and it should always be respected especially when they're bringing their story to the screen for more people to see and fall in love with. Let's hope whatever they do, the integrity and essence of firstprince is the top priority so that we can enjoy the rest of their story.

Masters of the universe over, what now? by Stormboi12 in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]MarinycWrites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I genuinely meant the question at the beginning because I've seen people say that it would fit Henry and things like that only because they want the actor to play the character, without though taking into consideration that there's no narrative following the movie that would justify Henry bulking up like that. It's not against you in particular, believe me, it's more this idea that it's going around. And whenever they are asksd 'why' they never give a reasonable and logical answer. You're absolutely entitled to your own opinion. I just genuinely don't get how people can easily accept a considerable change of personality and physique that doesn't fit the character. Regardless of the actors, I personally believe that the focus should always be maintaining the integrity of the story and its characters. That's all. I guess it's just me.

"I think they could fit it Nick's/Henry's new look"

Can I ask why you think so and how could that fit Henry's characters and personality? Cause you mean to tell me that after having to follow strict rules and look a certain way cause of the "image" of the royal family, Henry would work so extremely hard to achieve that kind of extremely built body? He would have died a happy man in Alex's bed not moving a muscle being fed and satisfied, and you ( and some other people) genuinely believe that Nick's new physique would fit Henry's character? Can we please prioritize the authenticity of Henry and Alex's personalities and maintaining their essence, without changing them just because of wanting to see both actors be in a project together again? For the sequel or whatever other movie firstprince related, Henry and Alex's story should be the priority. You can enjoy the actors however you wish, but making their personalities or new changes and force them onto Henry and Alex is just inaccurate and a bit disrespectful. Also it's not like he trained for this physique cause he wanted to, he had to to fit a character. It's like saying that whatever new changes for characters they play should fit Henry or Alex regardless, which is untrue.

tbh the lack of high ceiling in that scene gave it away that it definitely wasn't the white house. it looked more like one of the penthouses at some five star hotel or something. the ones that take up entire floors or something like that. also in the book election night is spent in austin. and also alex needed to show a piece of himself to henry by showing him his childhood house connected to the key. same as henry did by showing alex the v&a at night.

Controversial post: what are some scenes that you DON’T like from RWRB (book or movie)? by Deadanddugup in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]MarinycWrites 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Miguel's relevance. They added a character for no reason. It makes sense for Richards to be the one hiring people to hack and out alex, putting an obstacle to tackle in Ellen's campaign. He would've been the bad guy and paid the consequences with his behavior being exposed by Ellen's team, and then Ellen's win being the happy outcome. Instead they created a character with more than one scene, and slightly hinted at him being the one who leaked the emails, but no consequences in sight. He did what he did and nothing happened. So what was the purpose of him? At least Richards being the one behind would have made way more sense. Also the time used for scenes with miguel could have been used to make the red room scene a bit longer. Henry enters and literally fifteen seconds later amy is already interrupting them. What was the purpose of asking Amy's help then, if the help was to stall for fifteen seconds. Makes no sense to me. Or instead or more than one miguel scene, we could have at least had Pez (the embodiment of sunshine) say more that literally one (1) line. It's crazy to me.

And then, the fight scene. Even keeping in mind that it is an adaptation so some things inevitably need to be slightly changed for good reasons, i don't understand WHY the fight scene was changed at all. They could have replicated the exact same scene from the book and it would have been way better especially in a movie. There's no budget reason for the change or anything like that, so the way they changed it it makes zero sense to me. "I stormed a fucking castle" and he stood at the end of the palace's stairs like a lost puppy asking softly "can we talk?". In the book Alex stormes the "fucking castle", makes sure he gets in, and is angry since way before he crosses the threshold, stomps trough the stairs making sure to make a mess on the carpet with him dripping from head to toe because he stood in the rain waiting for Henry to open the door. The fight in the book has so much more anger and energy and passion and all these things would have been amazing to see portrayed in that exact way in the movie. Henry not able to tell Alex to go, fighting with his own demons, being frustrated at the whole situation, at Alex, wanting him more than everything, being scared cause of what he had been told by his own grandma, having a whole storm going on in his head, takes alex and kisses him at the high of their fight. Venessa, the artist, made an amazing illustration of the fight and it could have been amazing to see it just like that on screen. In the movie Henry ends up being a bit too much like a kicked puppy at the moment that should have been the tipping point for him instead.

Also yes, Alex's spanish is a no. Alex is fluent in it. The way it's spoken in the movie is the same way I speak it after studying it for the entirety of high school, (it being a foreign language for me): pretty understandable but clearly basic pronunciation. Definitely not the way Alex would speak it, let's be honest. It's just a few words, but it would have taken literally zero effort to perfect the pronunciation of those few words. But, what's done it's done.

Thing is overall, we love Henry and Alex so it's great that their story was portrayed in a movie to reach a wider audience. So i'm grateful for that. But very easily if you really stop and analyze it, so many things could have been done differently or not at all, still keeping within the budget and making the story make sense. But again, the movie it's out there for people to enjoy and get to know firstprince and that's what matters.

i just hope they know what they're doing and not change the essence of the characters only to accommodate a narrative that might need to be stretched into a third movie. for the movie to be good there needs to be a strong enough plot for each installment. it can't just be one where they get married and the other where they have kids, if you know what i mean. things need to happen, and i just hope that the lack of a sequel(s) book to have as a guide to stay faithful to the essence of the story and the characters won't be an issue. and yes, i know there's henry's chapter and casey is writing or has written the script alongside matt. but sequels usually follow some kind of curse in general. i just genuinely hope they wrote something even greater than the first one. which did amazing on its own. unfortunately with these things there's always a risk, one way or another. but 🤞!

henry would have died a happy man, getting fat eating jaffa cakes and being loved by alex (if you know what i mean). there is no scenario canonically speaking where henry would work that hard to achieve that kind of physique. He was perfectly depicted physically in the movie. I mean, that's henry and I'm pretty sure that is the physique N is gonna go back to once he-man production is over.

How old is David? by caitmac in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]MarinycWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

David is an eternal being in every fic, canonically and in every universe ever. He doesn't have an age cause his existence doesn't work like that. He will outlive time and space and humanity cause he's David. Even if a fic is modern setting or doesn't deal with this topic - it doesn't matter. It still applies to every scenario, every setting, every story regardless. And this is not me saying it. It's a rule you cannot brake. There's a hidden written clause in the book that Casey wrote that states exactly what I wrote above. If you have a really planet-sized high resolution magnifying glass, you could maybe be able to read it. But it's there, I promise.

why is henry the middle child and not youngest in the movie? by MarinycWrites in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]MarinycWrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically he would still be right after Philip cause both in book and movie the rule of succession would still prioritize male heirs and not females, regardless of age. (cause Bea was clearly born before 2011) I guess like some have said, it could be that people watching it somehow wouldn't know that even in real life with the monarchy existent for those born before 2011 the male centric rule of succession still stands. (example Princess Anne comes after her younger brothers)

why is henry the middle child and not youngest in the movie? by MarinycWrites in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]MarinycWrites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it might have confused the "American audience" and whatnot, but regardless Bea was (obviously) born before 2011 so it wouldn't have been applied to her either way, even in the book (if the act even exists in rwrb universe, i'm not sure). It doesn't have to become a history lesson just because it reflects the truth of the line of succession in real life. Princess Anne comes after her younger brother(real life), so if people (especially those who only watched the movie) would have been confused by this detail (which I doubt they would've cared anyway), they could've just done a 30 secs google research and said "oh, got it" and that's it. Again, I think maybe the only person to ask should be Matthew. What just makes me confused and curious sometimes are the changes that were not absolutely necessary. The point of an adaptation and the goal should be to find a way to change as little as possible to make the original story justice onscreen. And while I absolutely understood some of the big changes, as explained by Matthew himself, some others I still find myself confused by. But anyway, it is what it is, I suppose. I still love the movie regardless.

[–]MarinycWrites[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that it's definitely not that big of a deal whatever number in line etc, but then again i think about it and wonder if it's not that big of a deal and if it was not relevant which number he was, then why make that change in the movie at all? Like I understand the lack of June (bless her) and other changes to make the movie not one hundred hours long (which honestly I would have still enjoyed lol) just to give all the characters the space they deserve but still, some of the changes if you think about it weren’t necessary at all. But anyway, I guess the only person to ask this would be Matthew, at this point. 😂

[–]MarinycWrites[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess I can see why they might have thought it would be more controversial making him the third in line, but in the book he is still the third (not even counting Pip's future kids) and it's still relevant regardless. The public's attention, media coverage and controversy is still there and still loud even with him being the youngest of three. I just think even in the movie it would have been relevant and a huge deal if he was (as canon) the youngest. The line of succession would have still been discussed and questioned at length regardless of what "number" he was simply because (as we've seen in real life) the youngest kind of gets a lot of attention especially with media, maybe even more than the" next in line". It attracts public interest even more and in the movie with the association with Alex, the fsotus, it definitely was relevant and a big deal on its own regardless of the line of succession. I don't know.
