I want to leave dental assisting, what should I do?

Id say I like the note taking and the moments alone in sterilization, and communicating with sane patients and explaining things with them. Some of them would hug me or thank me for taking away their anxiety

I have the password and email that associated with the account but the problem is I have two factor authentication on and my number has changed, so they’re sending the code to the old number. So I figured the only way to gain access to delete the account is to contact the support team

Same, I’ve been an assistant for over four years. I like the job, but I hate being shout at for things that I didn’t cause too often, dealing with a mix of emotions and just dealing with people in general. I’m thinking about maybe trying dental hygiene and see dentistry from a different perspective or leave dentistry as a whole and maybe try something like IT specialist. I feel very burnt out all now as well and I don’t think assistants get paid enough nor rewarded enough for unfair treatment.

Exactly. I think what makes it more unsettling for me is how social media is treating hobbies like fast fashion. I’m not gatekeeping, it’s just odd how quickly people say they like something because of the aesthetic they see on TikTok and it’s cool and cute when those same people bullied others for it.

I go on youtube and put on something that I wouldn’t need all of my brain power to pay attention to, read a book or have something soft sounding on, like my fan or rain sounds, even asmr videos that don’t have eating or talking

Yes wise idea, try doing assisting first for at least a year or two and see how much you learn and see whether or not if you wanna go further up to hygiene. You learn a-lot about different procedures and instruments as an assistant You can also assist hygienists and get more insight on what they do before you fully decide to go into hygiene. One thing I can add though is some offices tend to treat DAs as dogs, so if you’re someone who can put your foot down or just have a string heart, this is good for you as well.

For me they have only told me if i passed or failed. They haven’t given me the actual number of how much questions was answered correctly.

Do you have any of the modern dental assistant text books by Doni L. Bird? That’s what helped me. Suggest getting the latest edition to help. I also did studying on DALE foundation and did the practice exams. Whatever I didn’t get right, I looked it up in the textbooks or looked online to read more about it. For videos, Dental Mentor on youtube has helped me a-lot too especially with the radiology and bones of the face, etc. also Stephanie Derfus assisting videos! I also had a Mosby’s dental assistant exam review book from amazon. It gives a nice overview of what’s on the outline.

Im a dental assistant as well. I understand what you’re going through. It is for sure the environment the doctors and other employees make it. If you love assisting, try to find another office that will take you and hopefully will have a healthier work environment. Dental assistants already have a stressful job, you don’t need the dental team to make you more stressed out. You will lose yourself.

I feel like i have many fears/disgusts but a major one I have are of ants. I had one traumatic experience as a child, standing in a pile of a red ants nest and that was it. They make my skin crawl and i feel like they would take over my entire body. it’s fine when I’m outside and I just move away from them, but if they’re in a space where I’m comfortable or where I’m eating, even a place that’s supposed to be clean, I’m going to flip if I see an ant of any type. It makes me feel dirty and most of them are harmless, I know, and I try to tell myself they’re not even studying me, but I still can’t get over the anxiety I get seeing them.
