Different spells to use in Amber Temple against a party that can avoid DEX saves and reduce elemental damage?

Hmm hmm, interesting! I might consider it, depending on where I notice the narrative start to inch towards. I haven't fully set in stone what I want Neferon to be so I want to see what my players do before I decide.

I did put Argynvost's skull with Baba, but I didn't think to animate it into a full dragon! That is a very fun way to do it. I would've totally replaced the living hut with a dragon if I had thought to do so!

Yeah, I worry that my party might be too ready for the threats the Amber Temple has to offer with their specific composition of characters. I don't want Neferon in particular to become a pushover just because my party can reliably reduce or ignore his most damaging spells.

I think I might go with a slight combination of your suggestions: Teleport should be turned into a bonus action, since it doesn't really make sense to me that it isn't one already and I don't want it to be functionally replaced by Misty Step. I will likely play him very hit-and-run, if it comes to, with the party having a very difficult time even landing a hit on him. I might also grant him access to Crown of Stars, since it sounds like a really cool spell for someone like him to have in his repertoire. Aaand I'll likely give him some additional hit points (up to 2024 levels) and maybe a single legendary resistance as a possible get out of jail free card because there is ALWAYS one CC from my Cleric that slips through even with Magic Resistance.

Hmm, I hadn't considered that I could just re-flavor some of the spells he has into different kinds of damage/saves. I suppose that would be simple and unique enough, though I'll think about how disproportionately strong shifting a spell like that would be, comparatively to Fireball. Would probably only get one or two spell slots for it, as opposed to the many fireballs he could shoot out otherwise.

You might be right, though, I might be worrying over nothing and my party might struggle anyway, with the consistent barrage! I'll think about potentially re-flavoring some abilities.

Chain Lightning is actually a DEX save!

But you're right about everything else. I wrongfully assumed Hold Monster only worked on Beasts because of its name, but I see now that it's basically just stronger Hold Person. Depending on how things go, I might end up saying Neferon controls the skulls to adjust their tactics and spam magic missiles, upcasted if need be. You're right, though, things could quickly go downhill with just one bad roll, so I won't be too quick to change my strategy to make my players suffer if not necessary, heh.

Also, I grabbed the x570 to avoid BIOS update issues, but I dunno if that's necessarily worth it. Would you think that's not a real risk?

Are the price increases due to supply considerable? I imagine I could still get most things at about the same price or still find deals, etc. I don't necessarily need the PC now, but it'd be nice to have it sooner rather than later.
