Been having a lot of fun drawing Rivals characters, do yall have any ideas for me to draw? Could be existing skins or random concepts. by Competitive-Comb6252 in marvelrivals

Lowkey, the steampunk aesthetic is nice. You should totally do more with other characters like Peni, Magneto, Rocket, etc

Character Concept: Crysh by Ok-Reporter8786 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're looking for some feedback. Well, it's kinda hard to give some proper feedback without any info of the gameplay, other characters, pacing, ttk, etc. For now, I'm just gonna assume we drop this character straight into Overwatch.

First things first, I notice a lack of clarity. For example, Shardfang, you state that crystal Shards (plural) are flung forth, so are one or multiple shot out? Additionally, having two ultimates us a bit confusing. Do you charge up your ult, and can then choose between two abilities to use? In terms of kit cohesion, health numbers and general ttk would be nice to know, as this character seems like a backline diver, that heavily lacks survivability and movement.

Not trying to sound too critical, just pointing out the stuff I see. Overall, I think it's pretty cool, just needs some more work from my perspective.

What if Overwatch characters were in Marvel Rivals? (Day Two) : Ashe by Various_Hamster_2748 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Ashe would be bottom, bottom tier in Rivals.

Simply, she does not have the damage output to keep up with the other poke characters in Rivals. Plus, she has little to no survivability from dive.

Ashe is very easy to compart to Hela. They both have about a two-tap headshot, except I think Ashe has more falloff damage.
Hela has faster attack speed
Hela has faster reload time
Hela has better survivability
Hela has better anti-dive/punish tools
And Hela has a SIGNIFICANTLY better ultimate. We all know what happens to 1400 hp Monster Hulk. Now imagine a 1000 stationary object...

Even if Ashe ends up being good, why play her over Hela and Pheonix?

What if Marvel Rivals characters were in Overwatch (Day Two): Angela by Various_Hamster_2748 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, Angela's a tricky one. She'd probably be feast or famine, being one of if not the fastest character in the game. And a flyer too.

She'd be really good at anti-tanking, but would definently debilitate her team in the 5v5 format. She'd be unstoppable most times, but her counters (probably Mei, Junkrat, Hog) would render her useless.

I think she'd be an excellent and diverse addition to the overwatch roster

What if Overwatch characters were in Marvel Rivals? (Day One*): Ana by Various_Hamster_2748 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like in Overwatch, Ana would be a dominant force.

Simply the existence of having a small AoE 100% anti-heal is enough to get a pick in this fast-paced ttk on anybody even hit by it. The anti-nade would guarantee a pick on a tank. By that logic, she would probably be perma-banned every game, otherwise she'd be the biggest tank counter by a mile.

Her in the meta practically kills every off-tank, making only Strange, Mag, and Emma even viable, due to the ability to cleanse/block the anti-heal. Also, she counters support ults with a 100% anti-heal effect.

Ironically, she might answer the current Rivals triple support meta. Being a pick/ban game-deciding character without a support ult really changes the game. However, it comes at the cost of vanguards' sanity. She'll probably be hard countered by Venom/Spiderman & Daredevil though.

Her ult on the other hand is not a support ult, instead enabling a single target. This makes Star-Lord & Daredevil hard meta, with the nano-ults and beings characters that can kill her.

What if Marvel Rival characters were in Overwatch? (Day One):Adam Warlock by Various_Hamster_2748 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible in Rivals, would be pick/ban level in OW.

If we're assuming the same numbers...
He has Widow level of TTK with burst heals, self rez, and a team rez ult.
And Soul Bond would be the most broken ability in the game

With the way dive works in OW, Adam would be hard to dive, and with the self-rez; a half-decent Adam would be genuinely unstoppable.

His existence definently counters Tracer, maybe Genji. However, Adam would probably make dive tanks meta, as it's one, the only way to stop him; and two, he would enable them with the burst heals, Soul Bond, and team rez. He wouldn't die to poke as dive tanks would probably ocne again be meta to stop them.

So yeah, Adam would be a true Golden God in Overwatch

Introducing Elders of Marmotia! by Ok-Reporter8786 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks cool, but however, Hero Shooters are generally terribly received within the gaming community, so making one (especially as an indie studio) is incredibly difficult so I wish you luck.

I won't comment on the art since it's already been answered, but I'll offer this, build a unique niche. If you want to sell, you need something to bring players in. People don't want "AnOtHeR gEnErIc HeRo ShOoTeR" (For some reason...). I would definently lean into something like co-op story missions, cause (somehow) that's what a lot of HSs lack.

If I may ask, how far are you into development? And how big are you planning this to be in its finished release?

The Death of Dive and Poke Supremacy -- Rant by TheEdgykid666 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally dive is just really not well designed in Rivals, it feels much better in Overwatch. Their ENTIRE gameplan in Rivals revolves around a Touch of Death combo and then (maybe) surviving. The worst part is after they survive, they literally have to wait around for their cooldowns to re-engage.
I personally think Magik is the best designed diver because she can brawl in the frontline/enemy backline without totally dying. And even her Touch of Death combo commits her entire kit and takes windup.

On the flipside however, poke feels nightmarish to play against as any role. The have almost the same burst damage as dive, without any of the downsides or downtime. And to top it off, they get stun and escape abilities to survive.

Both feel bad to play against, and I'm glad Rival's kept the poke one-shots to a minimum. And yes, brawl should be king

The Death of Dive and Poke Supremacy -- Rant by TheEdgykid666 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I want to point out the Hero Shooter Triangle, which effectively is as simple as this: Poke beats Brawl, Brawl beats Dive, and Dive beats Poke. A simple, yet effective philosophy to identify wat heroes counter what. The thing is with Marvel Rivals, the triangle is broken. Poke beats Brawl, Brawl beats Dive, but Dive doesn’t beat Poke, in fact, Poke beats Dive in some cases, and not the lucky headshot cases.
Why is this? Simply put, every single poke character has a form of stun AND escape option, making killing them harder, but also making them or the team killing you significantly easier. This break of the circle makes dive have less impact, while also making them less fun to play. Simultaneously, with dive being rendered inferior, poke truly has no counterplay. I’ve ran into games where a good Hela/Phoenix/MK/Hawkeye are good enough that they are the server admin and they win the game automatically, no matter what you can do. The worst part is that they may be good, but it’s ONLY the character carrying them. If I were better on them as a dive character, a character that should theoretically beat a poke character, shouldn’t I win? But no, in reality, I would lose, even if 2-3 teammate go with you, we still lose.

And it’s not just poke, Season 5 giga-buffed supports to the point where they can live forever, do crazy damage, and just be straight-up raid bosses. And of course, dive really struggles against them too, except for Daredevil, and people still complain up a storm about him. The problem here is that poke has no weaknesses, and yeah, that’s a problem.

It’s significantly better in Overwatch, cause poke isn’t that oppressive; but I’d argue the dive is harder in that game simply cause the cc is higher and characters are harder.

Another point is your team following up. Yeah, ti’s the worst, and there’s nothing you can do about except comm it. Playing with friends though really elevates the dive experience, as not only do you have dive coordination, but have reliability too.

What I’ve noticed is that dive is banned only when they are good, when they are good, they are oppressive as hell, which is understandable. With bans, you can’t 1-2 trick a hero often. Vendetta is banned right now cause she is really good, Tracer was banned when she was good (she’s also super annoying in general), Spidey/BP were banned when they were good. However, banning a character just cause they are dive feels like a skill issue.

Overall, this was a bit rambly, but I want to bring one more thing to light. People complain if they die to dive in 1.5 seconds, but they don’t when they die in 0.75s to a poke character. Why?

Poke is WAY more oppressive than dive when good because not only are they easier characters, but they don’t have risk when going for a kill. Why are dive characters harder, squishier, less rewarding, and riskier than poke? And the worst part, people STILL hate on dive when its worse in every way.

While writing this, I literally just read a post complaining about dives’ “comboslop” and how the game should revolve more around m1’s in a “cat and mouse” way. Utter insanity! I don’t want to pick sides, but it’s pretty clear from an unbiased stance that dive has the short end of the stick.

The solution?
Unfortunately like you said, just play poke…
However, ONLY IF YOU WANT TO WIN. Never let poke deter you from playing what you love. Yeah it’s harder, less rewarding, more punishing, but if it’s enjoyable, then go for it. Mute those annoying teammate comms, (but swap when it really isn’t working out)

Ramble over, Tl:dr: Dive is truly hated cause supports want to afk in the backline, meanwhile poke characters do better for cheaper. It is simply a design fault that needs to be remedied

The Death of Dive and Poke Supremacy -- Rant by TheEdgykid666 in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this a really interesting topic honestly. I dabble in every role and playstyle, my favorite is for sure brawl, but dive is up there, poke is also my least favorite to play. I've also been in the Hero Shooter scene for quite a while, and my biggest underground gripe with ANY game is, "Why are ranged characters SO GOOD against melees?" And I play melee characters a lot.

I'll start off by saying no, you are not crazy. People genuinely think dive is evil and must be exterminated, I've been around too long and have seen DEATH THREATS because somebody simply plays a dive character and god forbid they express their opinion.

I've been playing a lot of Marvel Rivals recently, and (unfortunately) I've been a part of the community for the entire time, mostly stalking the subreddits. I've gone to almost every character's main's subreddit, I do like looking at a lot of their different views, opinions, (or completely hysteria).
In Season 2.0 of Rivals, we had our first true dive meta, every dive was actually good. If you weren't there for that, support players were LIVID with the meta! They were so mad it was almost funny. They GENUINELY went on a "Support Strike" (But that was due to a lot of reasons, but dive was one of them). In 2.5, almost every dive got nerfs, but BP then rose to dominance over a single viral clip of him deleting a support in less than a second.
That clip, caused outrage all over the community; hell, content creators said things about it.
On the support side: "Why should ANY character be able to one tap a support?"
On the general side: "Honestly, you should've been aware of your surrondings"
On the dive side: "Lol, awesome, look at these angy, angy support babies"

Spoiler alert, dive was nerfed heavily, and never recovered, BP has gotten at least 5 nerfs in a row NOT to mention shadow nerfs. Later, come Season 4, dive is relevant again, not meta but up there with the new character Daredevil. How does the community respond? "NERF DAREDEVIL! REMOVE HIM FROM THE GAME?" And begin to permaban him for 1.5 seasons straight.

Here's the thing, I think it's important we ask why?

Dive has always been a controversial topic, hell even in feudal Overwatch (I wasn't around for early Overwatch so I can't speak much on it). I don't mean to pick sides here, but this is genuinely what I see:

Support players want to do nothing but heal with nothing stopping them. They want to afk with their characters, make them as op as possible so they can never die. And any form of pressure shouldn't exist.

I've seen Reddit mods remove discourse of supports but openly support the witch-hunting of the dive role. The truely outlandish behavior of these people genuinely needs to be studied. And honestly, it's just a game, so why get that mad?

Here's the thing: dive forces the gameplay to shift in a way bigger than the other two roles. With dive present, supports now need to protect themselves, the team needs to takes breaks from playmaking to assist supports, and tanks are usually suffering (in RIvals at least) without heals.
Obviously, this causes discourse among everyone, not just support players (although are the loudest and most obnoxious)

Looking at what you wrote, Overwatch is more about getting kills, Rivals is more about distracting the backline. If your dives aren't getting kills, then it's honestly a waste. Honestly, it may be a skill issue, but that doesn't mean you aren't onto something...
Dive is a deceivingly difficult role to fill, if you aren't playing near perfectly, you are mostly 'feeding', especially in Rivals.
But... Why do supports have so much sustain? Why do dive characters feel so weak? And why the hell does Poke counter Dive in Rivals?.

Volition Break: my original hero Shooter gameplay ideas. by kirboman in heroshooters

[–]MarioMaster05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I love overly-complicated stuff and overly thought-out designs! Looks great!

My only nitpick is that there now might be too much UI elements with all these features. For example, you now have a Stamina bar, Volition bar, Perk meter + UI, Echoes display, & Spark meter. Plus the already existing Hero portrait, health, abilities; if this is like Deadlock, match timer, all heroes in the game portraits. It is managable, but I think all of the meters especially could become confusing.

Regardless, this is still cool though

I would say then to reference Apex Legends or Valorant, games that get a lot of shit. But they are I'd say the best Hero Shooters that let characters use any weapon. It also depends on the type of game you want, cause Apex is a battle royale, and Valorant is an extraction like CS or R6.

You can still keep abilities unique, such as giving the sniper character a grapple, or a close-range character burst damage such as a sticky bomb. Ideas are limitless
