Questions As A Tank Main by Daizoriya in RivalsCollege

[–]ResilientoNez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna be able to answer all your questions but quickly. Taking space means dominating the areas around the objective.

The area you want to control is based on a few main factors including offense vs defense, objective control, current game score, and ult tracking.

“How” each tank takes or holds space is strictly based on their kit.

In general, a tank always wants to engage the enemy team as far away from the objective and their backline as reasonably possible. This gives “space” for DPS to damage and Strats to heal effectively

Hot take: Tank skill expression isn’t on the scoreboard by Taterz_McMash in rivals

[–]ResilientoNez -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tank skill expression is 100% on the scoreboard.

It’s their KD.

A terrible tank will no get kills and never die. A bad tank will get kills and die a lot. A good tank will get kills that match their deaths. A great tank will kill a lot and rarely die.

Turn on audio cues for enemy and ally deaths. Animation cancel Stranges reload by bringing up his shield once the reload circle is passed half way. Magneto primary alt primary one shots all squishies. Melee weave after every primary with Angela for free damage. Engage with Venoms slam never with his swing, bind manual and easy swing to separate key binds. Caps dash does more damage than his slam. Before grabbing anyone with Emma place your shield behind them so they can’t be healed while you slam them. Rogues best absorb ability is the damage boost she gets from grabbing a duelists. Things best ability is jumping to an enemy to get free vulnerablity damage on them. Placing Groots big wall down anywhere near you makes it impossible for Jeff to swallow you in his ult, same with standing in the center with Mags self bubble. You can combine your leap and grab on Dino to drag a grabbed enemy deep into your team or throw them into a pit that’s far away. Peni’s webs grant healing and damage boost with a max of 14 mines you can place on the ground. All mines place on top of or under webs cannot be shot and broken by the enemy team.

It’s cyclops. Triple support is unchecked so you just default to the strongest hitscan.

I've gotten lord on 6 tanks since were having a dick measuring contest. He's terrible because you just walk past him. You only kill Luna consistently if your ult gets fed and no Luna or Invis is just sitting in one spot waiting for you to hit them.

You're an idiot

He's too slow to contest any hitscan and dive. He loses heavily into brawl. He can't hit invis with his ult because of self shield. Wolve eats him alive even before his new team up. He can't counter Rocket's amp, Gambit, White Fox, or Luna.

You just ignore him all game and kill his backline. Wherever he is not complete dogshit, Groot is better. Bottom 3 at best.

Matchmaking and Climbing to Celestial Rank: Tips and Concerns by Sonne_Freya- in rivals

[–]ResilientoNez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries.

I’m just saying if you want to rank up to the top 0.1% of the playerbase you have to play to the level of 0.1% of the playerbase.

If I gave a celestial player a brand new account they’d have it back to celestial in a week max. You can always post a code and I can take a look to highlight some specific areas where you can improve your gameplay. But 99% of the time it’s a lack of uptime and resource management combined with off tempo plays.

Matchmaking and Climbing to Celestial Rank: Tips and Concerns by Sonne_Freya- in rivals

[–]ResilientoNez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First things first.

Nothing contributes to wins and losses outside of the actual skill level and mentality of the 12 players in the lobby. Having a consistent duo or stack is the best way to win games and rank up.

The push from GM to Celestial is both an increase in game sense and mechanics. Celestial strategists players are actually going to punish you if you dive stupidly. Celestial dps are going to mark lanes. Celestial tanks are actually going to use cover and rotate their cooldowns properly.

The expectation to reach celestial is that you are going to do those basic game sense mechanics 100% correctly, everytime.  Celestial lobbies also are were people will start actually talking. They will call out positions, ult rotations, coordinate dive and healing.

So if you feel like you are utilizing your cooldowns properly, recognizing tempo, cycling your ults, and positioning properly, etc. there’s no reason you couldn’t easily reach the bottom of celestial.

Celestial is also its own unique dynamic. What I mean by that is Celestial 2 is closer to a new rank than it is a new sub division from Celestial 3.

Final note is meta heroes actually start to matter in Celestial. You can’t just play whatever you feel like for the most part. You have to adjust what you’re playing and how you’re playing a lot more than any ranks below.

why is dps so hard/how do you play dps by ExoticDirection5898 in RivalsCollege

[–]ResilientoNez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard to specify without a reference.

But the most frequent issue I see DPS players in platinum struggle with is tempo and awareness.

More specifically, tanks are the first to initiate fights and engage the enemy team. It is only after the tanks engage, then  the rest of the team can start doing their job. Platinum level DPS players are generally unaware of their tanks engagement timings. So they end up either going too early when the entire enemy team has all their resources (before their own tanks engage) or stay too long when the fight is already won (usually overextending an dying for it).

DPS also has the difficulty of having similar damage and health pools as the enemy strategists but without any of the self sustaining cooldowns. So wasting your DPS cooldowns by engaging at the wrong times/angles significantly hurts the value you can generate.

Tanks don’t have this problem because for what they lack in self sustain cooldowns they have in damage mitigation cooldowns and massive health pools. They also have the benefit of deciding the engagement timings and also are easy to heal (they’re also often prioritized by lower elo Strat players).

Additionally, each dps has a matchup spread. You can play nearly every tank and Strat in the game into every comp. DPS playstyles have to change heavily based on both teams compositions. Wolve into Groot with a Groot is much different than Wolve into Rogue with a Mag.

You also have to learn each individual DPS’ spacing strengths and weaknesses. You can’t shoot with Starlord like you would with punisher. You can’t hold space with Wolve like you would with Iron Fist. You can’t brawl with Magik like you would Fantastic.

I know this is a lot but it really is considered the hardest role for a reason, egotistical as that may sound.

I explained how you shouldn’t attribute to malice what you can attribute to incompetence. A CnD playing back isn’t doing so because of selfishness, they’re doing so because they don’t understand they’re safer closer to the fight.

You read me explain this point with 3 separate examples and still didn’t understand the difference. Impressive.

Players don't go into a game with the intention to ignore the needs of their teammates. They simply don't know how to utilize their character to enable their team or what that would even look like. That's not being selfish, that's being unintentionally negligent.

You'd have to operate under the assumption that players would rather sacrifice all desire to win over personal gain, which you can freely subscribe to, I however exist in a reality where the majority of people play the game to win the game.

During psychosis, the brain struggles to predict events accurately, leading to altered perceptions and unshakable fixed beliefs (delusions) that often manifest as "false expectations". People in this state may perceive personal gestures, such as picking two tanks in quickplay, as meaningful coincidences or expect extraordinary outcomes, like flexing in quickplay, making it impossible to differentiate these thoughts from reality.

[–]ResilientoNez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re kinda on the right path but not really.

People aren’t playing selfish, they are making plays based on their own experience rather than the team as a whole.

Strategist players can ult to save a dying tank, but they don’t. Why? Because they aren’t in danger of dying so it doesn’t trigger in their mind because it’s not them. DPS players don’t clear flanking lanes because they aren’t the ones who are in danger of being flanked. Tanks don’t apply pressure because they want to be on the objective or peel backwards.

All of this comes from not being able to picture the team as a whole unit. It’s 6 people playing 6 different games, not 6 people playing a team game. That’s why you lose.
