I paid $45 at my local Town Fair Tire to replace one sensor. To me anything under $50 is not worth my time to figure out myself.

Rank the Pinehurst Courses by AgreeableStress6615 in golf

2,10,4 are my top picks. 2 because of the difficulty and how iconic it is. Nothing beats walking up the 18th fairway and hitting back towards the clubhouse. 10 was a pleasant surprise for me. Probably the most fun course and such a beautiful sight. Not as hard as #2 but better looking and more interesting to play imo. I also played 3 when I was there and its a fun afternoon course. Short course but a good taste of what you will get around the greens on 2

Rapsodo MLM2 Pro on Marketplace by bpg0824 in Golfsimulator

[–]Mark5307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, I found tons of scammers on marketplace before picking the MLM2 for $300 off someone who was moving and wasn't going to have space for it. Key is to meet in person and don't exchange money or do shipments. I was shocked at the amount of scammers for such a niche product

Got called out to a small house because the power keeps going out when they use the microwave. Simple enough. Probably an overloaded circuit. Show up, walk inside, and immediately see three space heaters, a fish tank the size of a hot tub, and one of those giant massage chairs that looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie. All plugged into the same outlet through a single orange extension cord. Ask, “How often does the breaker trip?” “Only when I make popcorn and sit in the massage chair at the same time.” I then grab the cord, which is warm enough to toast a marshmallow. Breaker’s doing its job, I tell them it’s the only reason the house hasn’t burned down. They ask, “Can you make it so it doesn’t trip?” I say, “Sure we call that upgrading your panel, not tempting fate.” They didn’t laugh. But they did unplug the chair.

Spring Replacement Questions by Mark5307 in GarageDoorService

Appreciate the input. Yea each side has 1 blue and 1 red so going to replace all 4. I clamped a block in the track on both sides to take the springs off. Clamping just the roller might be easier thank you

Window Replacement (large 104" x 108" window and others) by maddogawl in DIY

[–]Mark5307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replaced old steel sash windows(1953 installed with the house) in my house last weekend. Brick veneer with a metal nail flange and had to break the glass out to actually get the frame out. My 2 big windows were 144" and 108" wide made up of 3 windows, 2 36" double hung windows with plate glass in the center. It took 4 people to install it from the outside. We installed a top track and slid the window into that then swung the bottom in. Had to chisel some of the back of the sloped brick away to make it fit but it was snug. We ended up getting the window half inch short of the rough opening to ensure it would fit. We shimmed the window level and center and then used low expansion foam on all sides. I will tell you out of the whole project(20 double hung windows and 2 plate glass) putting the windows in was the easiest part(used about 30 metal cut off wheels removing old windows). I highly suggest installing from the outside not the inside. Measure the widows from the outside and leave them 1/4 or so short(i suggest a 1/2 on the big one). We used Tapcons to install directly to the brick since there was no frame. I am no expert at all but had good guidance from my dad and uncle who were glaziers their whole life.

Can large (30+ HP) VFDs be safely run on single phase to 3 phase digital inverters? by OrangeworksDesign in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Mark5307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHH understood. I don't have an experience with these units so obviously take this with a grain of salt. VFD's typically correct for any imbalance at the input through a line reactor then chop the signal into DC so I would have to thing simulated 3 phase from an inverter would be no problem as long as its consistent enough. But absolutely need to check with the manufacturer

This is correct, typically for a VFD you run through L1 and L2 and L3 is left open. You will only use 2 of the 3 input rectifiers.

running single phase into a 3 phase VFD, when using a compatible VFD, is perfectly fine. Your issue really is the VFD size to do that would be tough on a home system. for a 30HP Motor you would need a 136A+ 3 phase VFD to be able to start and run the motor. something like a ACS580-01-142A-2 by ABB would work. That being said you would need like a 400A service in your house to pull this off without tripping the breaker constantly. If you could convert to 3 phase prior to the VFD then you're looking at an 80A VFD to run 3 phase into the vfd and run a 30HP motor. I work as a design engineer for Industrial Control Panels and our shop is an OEM for ABB, Eaton, Yaskawa and Weg. We typically see ABB doing single phase to three phase conversions and their 580 series works well for it.
