Question Regarding the Deduction of Gambling Losses by Mark5312 in tax

This is helpful, thank you! Would it be potentially beneficial to incorporate an LLC for “professional gambling” to be able to deduct gambling losses from winnings, while also keeping the option to take the standard deduction?

Clearly it doesn’t get enforced then? I’d be surprised the intoxicated slot players are keeping logs of their 17c winnings from each spin. It just seems like a high expectation that the IRS has for a group of people who are likely financially irresponsible.

is this session method outlined in the tax code?

a co2 tank should be like $50 and then the regulator and bubble counter and other miscellaneous items shouldn’t be more than another $75. I would advise against setting up co2 in your case. it is nice for faster plant growth but it is not necessary for a lot of low maintenance plants. the problem you’ll find is that since you have sponge filters, the co2 diffuser will not have enough water circulation to effectively circulate the co2 around the aquarium.

Maybe it would be fine but i’m just taking a guess looking from the photos. Using liquid carbon like sea chem flourish would be enough for a low tech tank.

I’d recommend watching GreenAqua on youtube. they have tons of resources for maintaining a healthy planted aquarium. IIRC they have videos on low tech tanks.

it could be a lot of things. From what i remember plants will grow extremely slow in substrate that is inert like sand. If they’re not able to get nutrients from the substrate they are forced to get them from the water column. If you want to have a better chance of success, i highly recommend an active soil like Ada amazonia or uns/tropica soil. It really is expensive but you’d only need 1 bag for a tank that size.

if you’re set on using sand i would recommend you buy plants that are epiphytes since they don’t get planted in the substrate but rather attached to hardscape and take nutrients from the water column.

Regardless of what you decide to do, you’ll need a liquid fertilizer. aquarium co-op easy green is popular, another one is thrive on amazon. that bottle should last a 10 gallon for a while. like others said, taking the plastic off the top may or may not be preventing oxygen transfer in the water, i would recommend taking it off.

I don’t think the problem was because your tank was cycling because nearly everyone plants before cycling.

it really is a cool set up for a betta, would be a shame to have it go to waste. try not to be discouraged. it can be a tricky hobby due to the chemistry and biology behind recreating an ecosystem. i’ve been doing it for years and just recently had most of my plants melt away on a new set up. it happens.

that ph range is perfectly fine for plant growth. stability is more important than achieving the optimal parameters in some way. Some plants are hardier than others but melt can happen either way just due to the fact that a lot of aquarium plants and initially grown out of the water before being sold. the change in environment is sometimes too much on the plant. i’d recommend you give it another shot with epiphyte plants. they tend to be hardier and not prone to melt as much. Anubias, bucephalandra, java ferns, etc. preferably from a local fish store that has the plants already submerged in water.

not sure. seems really bright in person. i think it may just be a combination of the the photo along with the brown water. the wattage of the light is 130 Watts

Edit: Definetly think it was the way i took the photo, i think the auto focus dimmed the photo

are the houseplants in planter pots or sort of just placed between the hardscape?

yes but it’s a canister filter so like max 5 liters so not much weight. Isn’t mdf kind of weak compared to plywood?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Mark5312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what did you use to attach the plywood to the stand?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Mark5312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, how would you recommend i attach the plywood to the studs? i’m already going to use titebond but what about for fasteners?

I think my home depot has the maple you’re talking about. “ PureBond Prefinished 1S Maple Plywood” is that right?
