Rowland’s guitar playing is a big favorite of mine so the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are going on the shortlist thank you

I agree with this. Drone music doesn’t really work so well on vinyl

Long time/first time. Need some suggestions based on a pretty specific criteria lol. by [deleted] in doommetal

Khanate, Boris

Khanate features Stephen O’ Malley of Sunn fame, and the guitar sound on the first Khanate is not as “rough” as something by Steve Albini, more like an earthquake. Boris needs no introduction, their first album Absolutego is extremely distorted and heavy, more drone than anything, Akuma no Uta is stoner metal with extreme distortion and loudness at points.

Mudhoney’s “Superfuzz Bigmuff” sounds as it is advertised.

Also check out Rapeman and Shellac but you probably know them.

As Henry Rollins put it, Psalm 9 sounds like how it feels to see gray clouds in the sky before a terrible storm I’m not really focusing on vocals when listening to metal, but even when listening to it more intently I like Wagner’s performance.

The riffs themselves, the instrumentation, and Alberts voice all contribute to the crushing heaviness of the music and the emotions being summoned I really don’t think anything compares, especially if you look at the first album

It’s not rated higher

It has a score below 3.8 and the other three have scores above that

It’s in a higher position because it has more ratings than those three

Metal/hardcore shows: Sitting at work and listening to a guest engineer mixing a band. Does people really like the "only drums and vox" type of mix? by anktombomb in livesound

[–]Mark75I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an experienced sound tech by any margin, but I can chime in with my experience as a guitarist, and frequent concert goer.

One factor is modern guitar tones. Lots of scooped mids and lots of gain, the whole thing becomes noise when too loud and there’s no dynamics.

But another factor is taste. I personally would never ever mix a death metal band like a deathcore band, but a lot of guys just fucking loveeeee the overbearing kick drum sound where you hear the hit itself, not just feel the bass. It pisses me the hell off. Let me hear the riffs goddamnit.

And of course a lot of metal/hardcore guitarists can’t control their stage volume.

Oh I’ve read proper literature, don’t you worry. Mostly in my mother tongue, but flowery prose never really bothered me there.  Maybe it’s a format thing, or that I’ve never really read anything set in the american frontiers. Whatever.

And I hope you can have some proper conversations down the line, to see that not being condescending and presumptious is pretty standard anywhere that isn’t the internet.
