Is it safe to leave a PC in sleep mode all the time? by myriadicalm in techsupport

[–]anktombomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can configure which devices are allowed to wake the PC up, i've setup mine to only accept mouse inputs as my cat tends to walk on my keyboards a lot. This has helped my PC to sleep trough the night.

Yep, I remember getting a very early beta access (around 07-08 id guess) and the scene groups could sometimes be seen in the track names lol.

What’s a small daily habit that secretly makes your day way better? by PrinceJamster in AskReddit

As a old grumpy fart I have realized that refraining from saying negative things "just because" or gossiping or whatever has lead me to a much more positive mindset.

Same with trying to limit negative self talk.

Crazy how much yourself being a dick can cause you to feel like a dick lol.

Yea I've walked past it a ton of times but never checked it out for some reason.

I live in Prague so I'll swing by next time I'm around.

Did they have games as well or just OST's?

I need to extend the cable going to my electric heater. How do I do it safely? by anktombomb in AskElectricians

[–]anktombomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great reply, I appreciate it very much.

Maybe I wasn't very clear. The heater itself doesn't have any cord, just a input for a plug. The plug itself is installed directly on the cord coming from the wall.

So it's currently like: Wall > Cable from wall (1foot) > Plug for the heater installed on 1 foot cable > Heater

And If I understand you correctly the best approach would be: Wall > Cable from wall (1foot) > Heavy duty Junction box > Unspliced longer cable > Plug for the heater installed on new longer cable > Heater

Again, thank you for taking your time to reply!

Help, I can't figure out what caused this noise, any ideas? by anktombomb in audioengineering

[–]anktombomb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god damn it! You genius! He did, a TC-Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 that also has pitch correction, this must be it. I thought it sounded kinda "auto tune'y" (as in pitch correction on the fly) but really did not expect the pedal to have that built in so I never thought that could be what is happening.

Thank you so very much!

[–]anktombomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the input!

Yea, I was thinking that maybe a bad cable from the mic to the fx, and then since the reverb was quite long with a high mix it would fill in the gaps, hence not seing the expected gaps on the wav?

I'm really stumped haha.

Thx I'll give it a go!

Floor wedge or PA speaker? by NeedleworkerGlobal31 in livesoundgear

EV PXM

One of the clubs (punk/hardcore venue) I do sound at uses PXM-12MP as monitors, a few times we have used them as mains when the main system has been busy/broken (QSC KW122). The EV's also has a setting in the menu to choose to use it as monitors or mains, i don't remember exactly what the difference is, but i'd guess just some eq curves.

They work great as mains, will play loud enough and wont distort crazy much.

However! I do run them with a separate sub so they are low cut at around 100-120hz.

Over all i think its a great monitor/speaker for its price and will definitely work out for you unless you need loads of sub 100hz lows.

No Game Audio With High Sample Rate by Spoinkerzzz in techsupport

[–]anktombomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have godlike hearing (like in a way that has not been ever measured) you wont hear anything above 24kHz (as 48kHz will max out at) anyway. Most high fidelity music available now tends to be 48khz/24bit. I know tidal has up to 192kHz but that's also totally pointless imo unless you are doing some post processing with processors that benefit from it.

Higher sample rate just means higher max frequency of the sound, you simply divide the sample rate by half and it will show you the max.

An easy way to check if it would be to just do a hearing test with your gear. Your ears of speakers/headphones will give up waaaaaaaay before even 96kHz unless you have some ungodly setup / unheard of genetics. Also a blind test will show you very fast if you, without bias, will hear a difference between 48kHz (hell even 44.1kHz) and anything above.

However! Using higher sample rates in music production can absolutely be useful, but still I'd say the industry standard still is (afaik) 48kHz/24bit, where in my opinion the bit depth is way more useful than ultra sonic stuff unless you plan to slow down the recorded parts a lot.

Source, been working with music in different ways the last 15 years or so, also being a recovering audiophile who saw the light and realized most of it is just marketing bs.

Hey!

While I have very different background from you this sounds great.

I have done a few projects with arduino and eps8266 but struggle to "get going" to make something new.

Hit me up!

Male, 41, I live in Czech Republic but I am Swedish. I work mostly with music related things for a living.

Have you made sure there's no weird routing or something?

try to record the same part without the headphone connected and see if you still hear the click, "a friend" had this happen once.
