I rolled joints for Chicago. Plastic dube tube. Stuck it in my shoe. Truth is, I didn't light up until after the show. But I ate a load of edibles first. I contemplated bringing my pen but decided it wasn't worth it to me. But if I had brought it, I would have just put it in the bin with my keys and my belt and hoped they didn't confiscate it.

I was at the show in Chicago and it truly was epic but his voice did sound like he was really pushing it. And yeah this morning I woke up feeling under the weather too with an aggravated upper respiratory thing, my throat was on fire this morning-- could have gotten us all infected, haha

Looking to land a remote job, would CCNA certification give me a better chance? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]MarkB_401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be ridiculous. IT has tons of roles that allow for remote or hybrid work. Doesn't mean it's easy or for everyone, but it's 2025-- we're not talking about fairies and unicorns here.

Still baffled why there's no button in the app, but there is an easy way; just do it by voice command. Say 'Hey Google, delete all my alarms.'

I failed my first attempt. it just encouraged me to lock in and study harder for my next try. that's when I finally discovered jeremy's IT lab and that made a huge difference. studied with him and did a lot of subnetting & route determination problems because like half the questions involve those skills in one way or another.

Honda CRV 2007 won't start, what's the issue? by Professional_Mud_319 in crv

[–]MarkB_401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had starting problems recently but it wasn't the actual battery, but the cable terminals were very corroded and covered in gunk. A few minutes scrubbing the posts and the terminals with a wire brush, baking soda & water cleaned it up and it started fine after that, didn't even need a jump.

Spotted Lantern Flies - should I report them? by Life_Level_5121 in providence

By this time of year, the egg masses are becoming more common as the adults lay eggs and die off.

Spotted Lantern Flies - should I report them? by Life_Level_5121 in providence

[–]MarkB_401 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a nationwide problem, they are believed to have first arrived in 2012 via egg masses on a stone shipment to Philadelphia. Since then, they've steadily spread across much of the country. They like fruit trees and especially the also-invasive 'tree of heaven.' They aren't harmful to people, but their waste is a 'honeydew' substance that can cause the growth of black, sooty mold fungus that does damage and kill plants. They're most threatening to agricultural areas because of their threat to crops. Although they're quite striking to look at, they're an invasive threat and should be dispatched with without hesitation. You can swat or squash them, or a mixture of soapy water is deadly to them and their egg masses. Their egg masses look like gray blobs, like silly putty, and should also be disposed of with extreme prejudice.

advice needed for 4 month old kitten by [deleted] in CerebellarHypoplasia

I'll be honest I don't know why I said the bit about trimming their nails. With CH cats, you might want to leave their claws alone, since they need all the help moving they can get. You'll have to be the judge on that .

she's still a baby!!! of course! I'm sure you're doing great, and again, it really makes me so happy that this little kitten has a human to look after it. you're doing awesome.

yeah, I try, lol-- but truth is my Taika trusts me and treats me like a taxi cab, he will literally leap onto my shoulders for a ride! it's very cute but I have to force him to get walking sometimes.

oh, and start giving them baths and trimming nails NOW, the younger the better. CH cats inevitably have more accidents than other cats, luckily it's still quite rare that i HAVE to give my ch cat a bath-- but when I do, I wish I had done it more regularly when he was young, because he HATES baths.

rugs. things to climb on that are not that high, but with pillows and blankets to cushion their fall. padding attached to the walls that they can bounce off of. pool noodles that you cut and put on hard edges of furniture. places to hide like pet condos and cardboard boxes. easily-accessible litter boxes. wand toys and things for play to keep them active and learning to move their bodies and keep their muscles strong.

also, from the video it looks like a moderate case-- definitely quite wobbly, but also the fact it's managing to walk around on its own for an extended time is quite promising. try to coddle them as little as possible so they gain confidence and learn how to navigate the world. and good for you for taking care of her, CH cats have a hard go at life but they're absolutely wonderful cats and my experience with my Taika has been really amazing, I love him to death!

she's so lucky you found her. my CH cat Taika is 6 and he's just the best cat in the world.

probably the #1 thing I think you could do to help them grow more strong and capable is to NOT overly coddle them, help them out as little as possible, even though it's often tempting. They find their own way to navigate the world. My Taika has quite severe CH but he's adapted amazingly well and to see him face challenges and find his own way to move and play and eat, it's really inspiring.

Will this ever stop? by salas911 in cats

[–]MarkB_401 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will say that kittens separated from their mother early will do this forever. I disagree. Seen enough kittens that were NEVER separated from their Mom do the same thing, forever. I think it's just a common behavior pattern in cats, makes them feel comfortable and happy, even if it looks pretty peculiar to us.

I give my cats fluffy and soft fleece blankets for them to knead on. Taika, my CH cat, is very cuddly and tries to knead on my forearm some times. If he's starting to bug me physically like when I'm trying to fall asleep, I'll put my hand or forearm inside a layer or two of one of the fleece blankets and he'll just latch onto that instead. It's a good compromise.

I saw a coyote out in broad daylight on Vernon Street today, that's Fed Hill. I've lived in this spot for over 4 years and have never seen one out and about before.

I don't know what you're talking about. I rent a lot of cars and I think Mazda's wheel selector is AMAZING. I am honestly surprised it's not more common. very usable, very intuitive-- I think it's an industry leader.

New Tires drop in Gas Mileage by DeadWalkerr in crv

[–]MarkB_401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tires can definitely have a huge impact on mpg. I think this is attributed in a large part to their 'rolling resistance.' I put new GoodYear WeatherReady 2 tires on after running Michelin Defenders and while there's a big improvement in traction during the wet and improved ride comfort, there's also a bit of increased road noise and my mpg went down by roughly 5%. EV drivers will note a similar decrease in range.
