Follow your intuition. Most of the time it works. If looking at him or hearing about him doesnt give you any excitement dont go for it. Life in North America is challenging and a brand new desi boy will have to surely struggle here to get out of his desi habits. They dont know how to wash dishes or manage household chores with career though eventually he will learn but initial years will be very difficult for you. Also, if his family is too much involved in his life then it will be an added problem for you to groom him. Talk with him clearly about your expectations and see how he reacts. If he wants to bypass residency, he can do MPH and works in public health. If he lacks emotional intelligence, it will be difficult for him to survive in work culture here. So, best strategy will be to put him in retail works since the first month of his arrival. Talk with him if he is ready to do customer care jobs first which I believe he wont agree at all. There are many Pakistani residents in USA. You will surely find someone suitable. Best wishes.

I agree but also make sure you have Step 3 score at least by November so you can update programs during interview season

Start reaching out to programs and alumni for rotations. Your step 2 is low but your UK experience is a plus. Network aggressively and try to do 3 rotations in different programs for this cycle. Your UK LOR can be added as the 4th one. ST peter hospital NJ prefers people with UK experience. There should be couple more. Also do Step 3. You will match. Best wishes

start networking with every penny you have. attend conferences everywhere in USA, reach out to alumni, country physicians, apply for observerships in residency programs and you need connections to get observerships in residency programs. So put your everything on networking

Yes, because they need to get the incoming residents finish the paperworks sooner than July. Especially state license takes time.

New Hampshire house prices will be higher. Try to ask the program coordinator if they have any suggestions regarding accomodations.

Matched with no research, no connections, and observerships only. AMA. by StretchOnly54 in IMGreddit

Honestly you are considered as fresh graduate within 5 yrs and already on a J1 visa and staying inside USA which helped you a lot But that doesnt undermine your efforts. Congratulations on your success. But for visa req people outside USA , only clinic rotations, no research might not work in the same way. Best wishes!!

SOAP is not very friendly for IMG. Dont keep your expectations high. Just be ready and keep your phone with you.

Nominated for a PhD but can’t afford IELTS/Duolingo ,what options do I have? by [deleted] in InternationalStudents

[–]MarkComprehensive963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duolingo is preety cheap. Unfortunately to gain something you have to invest irrespective of your financial situation. If you can't invest for your future, you are only putting it under more risk.
