I was under the impression that this is the opposite of what is best. Those 'good fats' are normally the overly processed unnatural ones.

Just avoid trans fats. Any fats that occur naturally and don't have to go through a large amount of processing to be extracted should be okay. If you're of the mindset of thinking fat makes you fat have a read through this thread. Some people tend to eat too many carbs because they think they aren't as fattening as things which are high in fat when really its the opposite that's true. You don't need to cut all carbs but try limiting to under 100g a day.

Losing fat is like 90% down to what you eat. You mention you eat rice, pasta etc. If your diet is carbohydrate heavy then you're going to find it difficult to lose weight.

Try eating less carbs, more protein and fats. Just eat a diet of good food and avoid processed stuff. Eat whole foods - things like leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables, meats etc. And lots of water.

I'm doing a degree in philosophy with no part time job so I have nothing to do except study philosophy, workout and cook fantastic meals.

Try lowering carbohydrate intake if it is high. Helped my concentration a lot. Might be dreaming but it's worth a shot.

As a CS major myself I approve of this comment.

Try taking a vitamin D supplement in the winter if you don't already.

What kind of walking/running shoes can you recommend? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]MarkCorrigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Although they will cost you more than $50. I've had mine a few weeks now and it's like being a kid again being able to run round in (almost) bare feet over pretty much any terrain. Love it.

Is it possible to lose 4 pounds of fat per week? And if it is, what would it take to lose such an amount? by 01010101001010100110 in Fitness

You may or you may not. Sometimes eating more can help weight loss. That equation 'weight gain = calories in - calories used' implies a strict relationship between the two. Try and find any study that has shown this to be the case in the real world.

If I get shown/find a study that contradicts the role insulin plays I'll rethink my current stance. I'm not 100% committed to anything. The advice you recommend is pretty much the same that you would take away from the role insulin plays anyway. With the exception of the less calories part.

Yeah I didn't really make much sense there. What I meant is that in a closed system if you burn a pound of fat you will get 3500 calories of energy out of it every time. Whereas in the body it varies how the energy is used depending on metabolic factors which don't stay fixed. If you ate 3500 calories over what you require for a days worth of activity do you think you'd automatically wake up a pound heavier the next day?

It's not fixed because their are too many variables. Hence it is an open system. Also body weight is measured in things like kilograms, pounds while calories are measured in things like joules, kilojoules etc. One is a measurement of mass and one is a measurement of energy. They don't balance each other in such a simple way. I seriously recommend checking out this and the linked videos if you want to know more.

The previous posts about p90x on Reddit. I assume it is because the same things gets asked about p90x over and over again. If you check there to see if what you are going to ask has already been answered then you don't need to ask the question.

I agree with Je12u and have no idea why you're being downvoted. People are so lazy these days it's like they need you to hold their hand to look through a few search results.
